Last night, I made one of my favourite childhood snacks: fresh carrots, roughly grated and sprinkled with sugar. Let sit for a while and eat with a spoon.
I'm munching the last of last week's carrots now. Another bag today.

Weird yes... but Ozzy is our special German :-)

Why weird? Carrots are very sweet to start with so you just add a little sweetness more. I don't like carrots in savoury food much because of the sweetness.

I could say a lot about the weird customs or eating habits of Brits, too. ;oÞ

Ooh - nummy! Any particular sugar?

*thinks of the last of the carrots in the fridge*

I only had normal white sugar but I guess demarera would work nicely.

Cool! (I've got granulated, caster, icing, demarera, light muscovado, dark muscovado & coffee sugars!)

Must try this tomorrow.

I never got the hang of different sugars because I don't bake and generally don't use much. I think the last half pound bag of caster sugar lasted me well over a year...

*nods* I did a lot more baking when I wasn't relegated to a little 'toaster' oven - our big one died. The little one is fine for most things, but you can never turn the grill off, so it's too difficult to bake with.

Aaarrrgggghhhh Teh h0rr0r!

That sounds like a really quick way to illness to me. I'm really allergic to carrots.

(although, to be fair, before I was, I probably would have eaten that sort of thing. I'll stick sugar in anything :o) )

I always liked grated carrots and sultanas, as a salad.

While I like both, I don't think I'd like the combination, especially not in a salad. I'm really weird like that.

How about grating some fresh ginger over it as well?

I don't like ginger in sweet dishes.

Now I know why everyone is confused. It's a regional thing. :o)
