Friday: Finished work at 2:30, took the train to London, trekked across London to Hackney and checked into my hotel room. Freshened up a bit, got changed into a nicer shirt and went to have the dinner experience of my life at Roganic. Being very happy and full, I took tubes and trains back to Hackney, showered and chilled before trying to find some sleep in my hot room (it cooled off later).

Saturday: The Victoria Line was out (which links central London to the Overground nicely at Highbury&Islington) so I had to take the Overground all the way to West Hampstead and then the tube to King's Cross for the Vivian Maier exhibition (which warrants its own short post) and then lunch at Pollen St. Social (blog post in a bit). Walking back from lunch towards Oxford Circus, I happened across the Pride parade which was ace. I guess I probably caught the second half and was a bit sorry I missed the first because it was really good fun to watch all those delightful characters, even those with a rather serious message. Because of the train/tube outages I didn't bring my camera because I wasn't sure I'd manage to take it back to the hotel and make it to the gig in time so I only had my phone. Just two samples, the rest are on flickr.

I then made my way to the Southbank where I wandered around a bit, watched a few performers and the world go by before I got some early dinner at Pitt Cue Co.'s trailer underneath Hungerford Bridge. They provide their take on American style BBQ with various and repeating dishes throughout the day. When I got there, they Pulled Pork had just come out of the oven and I leapt at it. Served in a cardboard container on top of a portion of zingy 'slaw, dressed with a spicy sauce and hot pickles and a chunk of excellent bread, this was excellent street food indeed. Considering the location and the quality of food, 7 pounds was still acceptable, I thought.

Another trek across London to Hammersmith for an evening I'd been waiting for almost all of my life or at least since '85 when I bought the Scarecrow album, to see John Mellencamp live (again, a separate blog post for that but just to say it was amazing). Then, the worrying bit of making it back to Hackney on public transport began, various lines were partially or completely closed so I had to take first the Piccadilly and then the Central line to Stratford. Despite various delays, I caught the last overground train and made it to Hackney Central, saving a wad of money which would have been the taxi fare.

Sleep was hard to come by as tunes from the evening were still going through my head so eventually got about five and a half hours of sleep before getting up, packing and walking to The Roost for the day's photo shoot. Quite a few people were there already and the place was buzzing with photographers and models getting ready. I only had two things planned: Last July in the morning and [livejournal.com profile] druidess1982 in vintage dresses by [livejournal.com profile] bethany_eowyn in the afternoon. Here are two preview shots, a full post will follow after I'm back from holiday:

Last July Va Va Voom!

[livejournal.com profile] nevla was kind enough to give me a lift back and I was home just after 8, being rather shattered. I backed up the photos, caught up with telly and got a relatively early night.

Friday was Sacrilege which turned out to be a very trad goth affair (with [livejournal.com profile] nevla as one of the guest DJs) until just before I had to leave because of knackeredness and the EBM came on. :/ Click the thumbnail and then on the link for the set on the right hand side for the rest of the photos:

Saturday I went shopping, relaxed, watched DVDs, processed Sacrilege photos and braised an awesome lamb shank for dinner:

More telly and DVDs later and then, just before I finally wanted to go to sleep, I read that Clarence Clemons had died. That news really got to me, although I had been fearing it after his suffering a stroke the previous weekend. As many of you know, I'm a huge fan of Springsteen's music and the Big Man's saxophone and stage presence are an integral part of the experience. Here's a video of Jungleland, forward to 4:15 for the sax bit if you like, and you'll see/hear what I mean:

On Sunday I was mostly depressed and didn't do anything constructive except two loads of laundry and a simple dinner (ratatouille with couscous). I also watched the dire remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still (mostly because Jennifer Connelly was in it) on telly and then the superb Lemmy documentary on DVD.

Now I'm at work and moping but I'm going out for dinner tonight so that should pick me up.

Friday:
Met up with [livejournal.com profile] ginasketch in London for extremely yummy grub at the English Pig and then went to the pub to meet [livejournal.com profile] innerbrat and friends (the pic links to the post):

On Saturday I felt really rubbish due to the muggy weather so accomplished nothing except baking my first batch of brownies ever (again, pic links to post):

On Sunday I did some stuff around the house, sat outside to read, visited [livejournal.com profile] hardcore_genki to have my brownies tested, booked a weekend pass for the Fantastic Films Weekend and chose my films, cooked pork steak with red pepper sauce and sauteed mushrooms for dinner and took a photo of the evening sky:

Evening Sky over King's Hedges

I spent the rest of the evening in front of the telly. Richard Hammond's Engineering Connections on the Burj al Arab hotel was fascinating, Atlantis on BBC 1 was quite bad but had some interesting info on Santorini (why it was called Atlantis when it was actually a fictionalised documentary on Thera/Santorini, nobody knows).

Had a really quiet and sleepy long weekend (Monday and Tuesday off). The only exciting things I've done was go to the Calling on Saturday night where [livejournal.com profile] lupie_stardust and [livejournal.com profile] thedinster played excellent choonz and I did quite a bit of cooking (e.g. vegetable couscous). I mostly slept, watched telly/DVDs, tidied a bit, read a good chunk of a book and played some PC games.

Mentioning gaming, last night was an excellent session of [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke's Cyberpunk game where not a single shot was fired but things happened and almost crashed the bus once while trying to take off. Weird things are starting to happen so excitement is afoot.

Friday was Sacrilege. A bit quiet but good fun. Click the thumbnail for the photo post.

Saturday consisted mostly of sleeping, shopping, relaxing, cooking ribs, watching Doctor Who (excellent) and silly DVDs.

Sunday was a bit more productive with getting a few things done around my flat and taking photos of [livejournal.com profile] hardcore_genki's kittens. Click the thumbnail for the photo post.

I actually managed to relax and recover nicely this weekend. I mainly slept (at least 10 hour every night) but also shopped a bit, read, watched TV/DVDs, cooked a nice steak on Saturday and a veg soup last night.
I went to [livejournal.com profile] deborah_c's Unbirthday party on Sunday evening where I met new people, played Munchkin and Fluxx, ate nommy food but left early again because my ears were still a bit clogged and the noise of too many peple made me feel queasy. It was all better back in my quiet (or at least only with the noise I wanted) place.
I also edited more photos from London. Click the thumbnail for the full post:

Today I'm groaning a bit because the Tai Chi workshop I attended was the first one that actually caused slightly sore muscles most likely due to unfamiliar movements as we worked on a lot of advanced concepts. Some more info in this post.
Sunday morning was lovely and frosty so I ventured outside before breakfast (I had slept in the hall so was woken up when it got light) and took a few shots. Click on the pic for more:

I didn't actually take any photos during the workshop but have a few other shots of some food etc. behind the cut )

Then after cooking a quick dinner last night, I processed the photos, caught up with LJ and emails, watched Supernatural and was in bed before midnight. Slept like a log and really didn't want to get up this morning.

First session of [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke's new Call of Cthulhu campaign tonight, yay. Let's see how much SAN we can lose in the introduction. ;o)

The weekend was far too short and unproductive. I got lots of sleep, though. [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke's party was good and I managed to get some nice shots of Lizzie and a few from other party guests, incl. Mr Carrot. ;o)

Click the pic for a link to the photo post.
.
Here's hoping I'll get some resemblance of order into things during this week so it doesn't all accumulate on the weekend.

Not that much to report, except that [livejournal.com profile] gandalf_t_black's bowling bday do was very enjoyable indeed.
Writeup and photos.
Sunday was lazy, except for the gig in the evening and another long chat with [livejournal.com profile] jupiter_jones (*cuddles*).
