Bah:
Yesterday morning started out wonderfully gloomy so I thought "perfect for taking spooky pictures tonight" but I didn't want to do it during torrential rain.
Obviously, it's bright and sunny this morning.

What often surprises me is that a country that's so used to rain and water can't build roads with proper drainage. After a few minutes of rain, there are deep puddles everywhere and hardly a gutter where the water doesn't stand.

Yay:
I'm going to Synthetic Culture tonight. It's a fiver when you turn up dressed as a pirate.
Anyone else going?

There's about 30 or 40 of us going from down here. It's a friends birthday. I'm heading to Ginnie's afterwards. I might actually see you this time!

Cool! Grab me if I don't recognise you. :o)

I'll be wearing a black flouncy shirt and a black (or leopard print, I haven't decided yet) bandanna.

Fantastic! I'll not be dressed as a pirate what with not being arsed and all. Should be wearing a panel skirt. I now have short, red hair instead of a mohawk. Grab me if you see me too.

But [a] the victorians built it all and it hasn't been updated much since and [b] we are used to it, having all this rain and stuff :D

The old bits generally work a lot better than new ones, though. The road past our office building is brand new and one of the worst in Cambridge.

Even after almost ten years in this country I will never understand this "that's the way it's always been, why do something about it" attitude Brits have...

That is what my canadian ex ranted about at great length too. 'Institutionalised Idiocy' was his phrase of choice.

The very fact that Cambridge is there at all is a tribute to drainage :)
