I'm very impressed with his simple coffin, it was basically a wooden box with a cross on the lid. You could even see the dovetail joins, almost a pauper's coffin.
What's with the sealed zinc coffin in oak casket, though? It's supposed to slow down putrefication but why?

A related question, does anyone know if sea_cucumber made it to Rome?

Maybe it's so he can be a saint (their bodies are supposed to be fresh for longer than normal after death or something).

Probably, but why not embalm him, then?

And that should obviously have been "sealed".

From what I can tell, embalming is a way of "corrupting" the body, which is a no-no. James could probably tell you more, since he knows a bunch about burial practices these day.
