On my way back, I will have a domestic flight from New Orleans to Boston with AirTran and then an international flight to Heathrow with BA.

Does anyone know if it's possible to check through your luggage to the connecting flight so I only have to check in/walk to the gate without having to claim my luggage, lob it around and check it in again?

I'd be a bit surprised if you can - each airline has its own staff for baggage handling etc. rather than having a communal staff for the airport.

you'll probably have to ask at an ATA counter when it happens.

Also, you picked up that they're bankrupt and appear to be in the process of being bought by Southwest, right?

*nods* Thought that might be the case, I just wanted to check with someone who might have been in a similar situation.

Argh! No!
Let's hope this doesn't go wrong...
