As I want to buy it for Christmas, I had a look around for the D70 when I was in Germany and the best high street price (EUR 1,200)  for the kit (incl. a nice zoom lens) is less or about the same as the street price of the body only over here. Considering that both are exported and the same version, there is no reason why there should be a difference of over £200.

Doesn't surprise me in the least - used to work in the 2nd hand camera business many years ago, people could buy grey imports new for less than the price of some of our 2nd hand stuff.

Yeah. Looking at cameras I'm almost certainly not going to buy one from this country. I'll get a grey import, and fork out for a seperate warranty on it. Companies are taking full advantage of the fact that the UK uses a different currency to the rest of Europe, so will charge more.

The public has only itself to blame though. I wanted in on the Euro, but they kept on complaining, so we;re still not there.

Then there's the aspect of people like me who are from Euro countries but live and work in the UK. If I were paid in Euros, it'd be much easier.

Not that the Euro doesn't have its drawbacks, prices have increased quite a bit since the introduction. Some things cost the same in Euro now they used to cost in Deutschmarks five years ago. Still no comparison to UK prices, especieally food and living (rents etc.).
