Well, GenCon. Many thanks to EvilHQ for crash space!!
Rather low attendance this year for which the Easter weekend (people going away or having to spend time with relatives) was to blame, I guess, among other things (high prices etc.)
Thursday
Finished work early, drove home, got ready, took bus to station, train to London, dropped bags at EvilHQ, tubed to Olympia, met Nimrod at Earl's Court, got my badge, signed up for a couple of freeform. Went to Pizza Express with Nimrod where we had a good dinner and a nice chat about games (rp, card and board games, not character anecdotes), random things and European spirits ;o) Tubed back to Evil, met a [livejournal.com profile] kathminchin, [livejournal.com profile] kinkykay and [livejournal.com profile] andrewdavies, chatted and went to sleep on the floor.
Friday
Made coffee and Nutella toast, headed off to GenCon, walked around saying Hi to people, didn't sign up for the Zombie game as I would have had to leave early, took photos at the 'ling game and then headed off to The Forum for the Sisters of Mercy gig
It started with a very strange band from Manchester who might have been reasonable in another context but not here. It was some sort of modern prog rock but every song was pretty much like the other and the vocals sucked.
Then the Sisters let us wait for quite some time but then they rocked our socks off. It was a very good concert and I had a pretty good place to stand (right in front of the mixer desk in the centre of the stage). I didn't see much later, though, due to stupid tall people and others sitting on each other's shoulders but that wasn't too bad as the people on stage were nothing more than shapes due to loads of smoke and very effective lighting from the back. Well worth the money.. Was quite tired after that so did neither go to EB nor back to GenCon but to EHQ. Had shower and went off to dreamland.
Saturday
Same breakfast, off to GenCon, wandered around, met Brian Froud
which was very interesting. He talked about his work and his perceptions of things. Something he mentioned is definitely worth looking forward to: Ther might be a Faerie film, with him doing the art (obviously) and Neil Gaiman (!) writing the script., played the excellent Ghosthunters Freeform
The game was set at Bassethwaite again, with rumours of ghosts and hounds about and even about a possible heir of the Bassets being found. I was a sinister gravedigger with a morbid agenda. I won't go further into the game as Epic Experience might run it again somewhere else. It was a very fun game with lots of intertwined plots and intrigue. For some reason, the players thought I had delivered the most enjoyable performance (I at least scared the girls ;o) and I was awarded with a lovely fairie statuette :o), took photos at the MM Vamp game, went to the auction and first resisted buying artwork as my walls are full but then they had a sketchbook with stuff from various attending artists which I couldn't resist. At least I got two free bottles of beer ;o)
Then it was time for RHPS which was great fun. Not very many ppl there but most of those who were did participate nicely. At least one GenCon tradition that was kept alive. Still, it wasn't the same without [livejournal.com profile] suzerain ;o). Piled into two black cabs, back to Evil for chat and sleep.
Sunday
Played Lunch Money with Nimrod and friends, and then another Epic Experience freeform, I'd Like to Thank
which was set in Bassethwaite again during the prestigious BIFFA awards. Less of a plot this time, more deal making and intrigue. Very funny as well. The problem was that the game was held at the Albion pub upstairs. After two hours or so we were asked to go to the downstairs bar. That was impossible due to lack of space and normals being there. Thankfully, Kareem managed to get us a room back at the Olympia which was quite appropriate.. There was just enough time to grab a nice ciabatta sandwichf from the local shop before the superb London gangland freeform Discreetly Yours
Gangland London. I was the second-in-command of the Soho gang with various things on my agenda but after the rest of my gang, including my boss got capped within the first hour of the game, surviving the night and keeping hold of my drugs business moved to the top of the agenda. It was quite likely the quietest game I've ever played but at the same time the one with the most intrigue and surreptitious deal-making. Very, very cool. The only downside was that not enough people turned up and a number of characters were missing.. Just managed to catch the last tube from Olympia and the last Piccadilly from Earl's Court (District line had already gone) but I missed the last Northern at Leicester Square so I walked to Trafalgar Square to catch a night bus to Waterloo. Was alright apart from the half hour wait. As [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke and Chris M had already gone, I crashed on the sofa but that was actually more uncomfortable than the airbed (armrest being too high) so next time I'll sleep on the floor again.
Monday
Was rather late today, only got there about 12ish, got invited to another freeform by a player from the gangland one the night before but didn't feel up to it at all. Wandered around a bit instead and met up with Nimrod and others again to play some card games and a very funny game of Zombies (Konga!). For some reason [livejournal.com profile] andrewdavies had been rolled up in bubble wrap and was rolled around the floor by [livejournal.com profile] kathminchin.
Wandered some more, saying goodbye to people, tubed back to Waterloo, picked up some lovely Liver Kebab from the superb shop, had dinner, packed my stuff and headed home. I actually fell asleep on the train, I was that shattered. Usually, I can't sleep when it's noisy and bright. Bus home, switched on PC and spodded.

It was reasonably good for me as I managed to not being affected by the organisational nightmares (except for the venue change during the second EE game) but the low attendance sucked a bit. Not sure if I'll go to Amsterdam next year. We'll see.

I've taken loads of photos which will be up sometime duirng the week. I will post a link then.

Oh come now, it's not that bad of a walk from London Victoria to the Evil HQ, I mean I managed to do it without a map of london, without ever having seen a map of london, at 1am by myself :) so walking from waterloo from Trafalger can't be that bad.

;)

Hm, the bus took about twenty minutes so I suspect it's quite a walk.
I had no map, it was dark and I had been on my feet all day. All I wanted was rest.

I don't think I'd have the courage to walk randomly through an unfamiliar city in the middle of the night without a map. I'm still a bit of a small town boy and not used to big cities.

I certainly did, despite the venue hickup during the second one. Looking forward to next time.
