Well, GenCon. Many thanks to EvilHQ for crash space!!
Rather low attendance this year for which the Easter weekend (people going away or having to spend time with relatives) was to blame, I guess, among other things (high prices etc.)
Thursday
Finished work early, drove home, got ready, took bus to station, train to London, dropped bags at EvilHQ, tubed to Olympia, met Nimrod at Earl's Court, got my badge, signed up for a couple of freeform. Went to Pizza Express with Nimrod where we had a good dinner and a nice chat about games (rp, card and board games, not character anecdotes), random things and European spirits ;o) Tubed back to Evil, met a
kathminchin,
kinkykay and
andrewdavies, chatted and went to sleep on the floor.
Friday
Made coffee and Nutella toast, headed off to GenCon, walked around saying Hi to people, didn't sign up for the Zombie game as I would have had to leave early, took photos at the 'ling game and then headed off to The Forum for the ( Sisters of Mercy gig ). Was quite tired after that so did neither go to EB nor back to GenCon but to EHQ. Had shower and went off to dreamland.
Saturday
Same breakfast, off to GenCon, wandered around, met ( Brian Froud ), played the excellent ( Ghosthunters Freeform ), took photos at the MM Vamp game, went to the auction and first resisted buying artwork as my walls are full but then they had a sketchbook with stuff from various attending artists which I couldn't resist. At least I got two free bottles of beer ;o)
Then it was time for RHPS which was great fun. Not very many ppl there but most of those who were did participate nicely. At least one GenCon tradition that was kept alive. Still, it wasn't the same without
suzerain ;o). Piled into two black cabs, back to Evil for chat and sleep.
Sunday
Played Lunch Money with Nimrod and friends, and then another Epic Experience freeform, ( I'd Like to Thank ). There was just enough time to grab a nice ciabatta sandwichf from the local shop before the superb London gangland freeform ( Discreetly Yours ). Just managed to catch the last tube from Olympia and the last Piccadilly from Earl's Court (District line had already gone) but I missed the last Northern at Leicester Square so I walked to Trafalgar Square to catch a night bus to Waterloo. Was alright apart from the half hour wait. As
robinbloke and Chris M had already gone, I crashed on the sofa but that was actually more uncomfortable than the airbed (armrest being too high) so next time I'll sleep on the floor again.
Monday
Was rather late today, only got there about 12ish, got invited to another freeform by a player from the gangland one the night before but didn't feel up to it at all. Wandered around a bit instead and met up with Nimrod and others again to play some card games and a very funny game of Zombies (Konga!). For some reason
andrewdavies had been rolled up in bubble wrap and was rolled around the floor by
kathminchin.
Wandered some more, saying goodbye to people, tubed back to Waterloo, picked up some lovely Liver Kebab from the superb shop, had dinner, packed my stuff and headed home. I actually fell asleep on the train, I was that shattered. Usually, I can't sleep when it's noisy and bright. Bus home, switched on PC and spodded.
It was reasonably good for me as I managed to not being affected by the organisational nightmares (except for the venue change during the second EE game) but the low attendance sucked a bit. Not sure if I'll go to Amsterdam next year. We'll see.
I've taken loads of photos which will be up sometime duirng the week. I will post a link then.
