Gah, tech problem

I have an odd problem: I can't attach a zip file with either Yahoo or Gmail. The attachment always fails. It's not too big. Strangely, the progress bar moves very quickly at first, then slows down and finally stops at 8something percent. Any idea what this could be?

NB: Attaching a few JPGs works but it won't accept the zip file.

It may be that Gmail is rejecting it because it's a .zip file--they definitely reject .exe files--try the help pages?

They really should give an error message if that is the case, but beyond that don't know.

I just get attachment failed, no specific error message.
Oddly, I now managed to do this on Yahoo from my PC (which is running XP while the laptop is running Vista).

That wouldn't let single JPG files through and it wouldn't work on the PC, either as they are behind the same firewall.
I suspect a Vista memory issue, similar to the one that won't let me reload LJ post pages. :/
