First of all, a big THANK YOU to [livejournal.com profile] sogoth for coming all the way up from Maidenhead and driving back home again and for playing two fantastic sets (playlists forthcoming).

51 people through the door, we made £76.50 which will pay for the advertising for this and the next event and many people liked it, some people liked it lots and some people didn't like it but that's to be expected. Not everybody has such a varied taste as we do.
I think [livejournal.com profile] dreamingchristi hit the nail on the head when she said, "Octaine is a night for people who like music." Not bound to any genre, not driven by commercialism.
Yes, I played a lot more tracks that were better known but still not mainstream and lots of obscure stuff and people even danced to it!

I was amazed at how many people danced to the Powernoize tracks I and [livejournal.com profile] sogoth played, [livejournal.com profile] hampsterboy danced to In Extremo's Vollmond and [livejournal.com profile] feanelwa danced to Corvus Corax! :o)
When the lights came on there were still about 20 people about, even some people we've never seen before who had stayed all night. Last time, they threw us out at 1:45 because it was dead. Yay, W00+ and Hoorah.

As I won't be able to sleep for a while:

A more coherent writeup and more setlists tomorrow or soon after.

Near Dark

Was wandering around the DVD shelves at Tesco's and my eyes caught this film. It sounded interesting, and I wanted to treat myself to a little something so I picked it up. I hadn't heard of it before and reading the blurb in the booklet, I knew why. It came out pretty much at the same time as The Lost Boys, which of course was the higher budget vampire movie with the better known cast, so Near Dark vanished into obscurity.
Just watched it and it's cool that they re-released it. It's definitely watchable, has some great Yes! moments and some good one-liners.

Lance Henriksen plays the leader of the group of vampires, and he's very good.
If you get the DVD (or want to borrow it, you're more than welcome), make sure you watch the documentary on the second DVD, especially the interviews with the actors are cool, how they got into and stayed in character and so forth.
The film has some cool music as well, including a cover of Fever by The Cramps.
