I finally figured out how to connect my new laptop to my TV so I get a larger picture but the HDMI connection is picture only so I still get the laptop sound. Bah.
ETA: Even more stupidity. I randomly found a 3.5mm/RCA cable, connected it between laptop headphones out and RCA in on the TV. No sound, only when I switch the TV to PC input. So it might work if I connected the laptop via a Dsub cable but then the picture wouldn't be as good. Rubbish!

How annoying, given that HDMI is meant to transfer the audio as well. I guess you'll need a 3.5mm stereo jack to RCA stereo converter cable to get the audio from the laptop to the TV to work around this.

You could get a cheap sound system for the laptop... i know it's kinda beside the point, but it would give you better sound.

USB Soundblaster. I have one on my Puter-plugged-into-teh-tv . HDMI link set up as well through the graphics card on it. Th sound goes into the surround sound amp. Just need the HDTV now... That might take a while... ;)
