is very cool indeed. It has everything an entertaining film needs, it's fast, beautiful, funny, lush, dramatic, silly, moving and a little bit sad.
Jackie Chan and Jet Li bounce off each other wonderfully (and often literally). I hope they'll do more of this thing as it was a pleasure to watch them having a lot of fun. The film is an amalgamation of a lot of things, not just classic 70's HK Kung Fu (Jackie Chan basically reprising his Drunken Fist role) to modern OTT Wuxia (the Jade Warlord and the white-haired witch) with elements from some classic fantasy and crossovers like Big Trouble in Little China, too.
I recommend this to anyone who wants 90 minutes of fun, especially if they love HK cinema.

I didn't see [livejournal.com profile] the_magician but ran into [livejournal.com profile] akonken and [livejournal.com profile] jholloway who were out on their date instead.

That sounds fun.
There are so many movies I want to see but can't afford to.:(

Wall-E and Dark Knight being the front runners.

Jet Li clearly had the time of his life with that one. :o)

I quite fancy it, because it looks like it might owe a lot to the classic Hong Kong cinema of the late 80s/early 90s. But I was a bit wary becaue I've never been too crazy about Jackie Chan.

classic Hong Kong cinema of the late 80s/early 90s and earlier. Anything from early 70s HK stuff and Monkey (there's an episode of Monkey on the Western character's TV and obviously the Monkey King is the central character) to modern Crouching Tiger/Hero style Wuxia and everything else between, incl. Big Trouble in Little China (weird sparkly magic and The pawnbroker in the beginning would have made a perfect Victor Wong character). I didn't find JC particularly annoying.

Go and see it and make up your own mind but I bet a bottle of malt you won't be disappointed.
