Tonight I made a risotto with asparagus tips, flat beans and mushrooms:

Homemade vegetable stock, almost depleted
Veg stock I made last night, almost depleted because I only thought of taking stage photos towards the end. Sorry about the state of my kitchen but I haven't had a chance to clean it since cooking last night.

Bubbling away
The risotto base about halfway through cooking, just after a ladleful of stock had been added.

Steamed asparagus tips and green beans
Steamed asparagus tips and flat beans, to be added just before the end

Freshly grated Parmesan

Risotto with asparagus, green beans and mushrooms
Plated

Imagine some parmesan shavings on top which I forgot and didn't want to set up the camera again.

Looks yummy! I wondered what the "flat beans" were going to be, but now I see they were what I call runner beans. Runner beans have a special place in my memories of childhood; the fence separating my parents' front garden from that of our elderly neighbours (very keen on gardening) was adorned with a huge collection of runner bean plants. My mother used to send me out to pick them for lunch. In autumn I would open the dried brown pods of left-over runner beans (there were always too many to eat) and find beautiful perfect shiny pink and black-speckled beans inside, ready to plant (if we had wanted any more runner bean plants!). I still feel a deep affection for runner beans.

That's what I thought when I saw them but they were called "flat beans" in the description of my vegetable box and they are not quite the same (http://www.thinkvegetables.co.uk/veginfo.html?cart=11723082027326190&v_SKU=105601722914523).
