Fame at last?

Dan Clark from Stromkern posted a link to my photo of him at Infest and calls it "the best live photo of me I've ever seen".
Hm, it's definitely not the best live photo I've ever taken (it was from the audience with my compact rather than a real camera) but if he thinks so... ;o)

Live photography is difficult - Dave tends to prefer pics that capture something about how he feels on stage rather than the ones I think are the best photos!

*nods* Which is tricky to do with a flimsy camera from the audience when you're too far away.
Shame that Lost Playground was cancelled or I would have tried to get some cool new KM shots. The ones from the Underground were OK but the light was awful.

My best live photo is without a doubt the one I got of Scott Deathboy when they were supporting Rico at The Garage. I took it on my Powershot G5 compact.

A little patience, a little skill, and a fair dose of luck for the crowd, subject and lights to all be right at the same time. The camera was was far from the most important part in this equation. ;)

I've taken great pics with compacts, too but as you say, the lights and everything else (plus a ton of luck for the right moment) needs to be right.

Two things really irked me with my compact: the shutter delay (and delay til the next shot) and that panning along with the action was really difficult as the display couldn't keep up (the F11 doesn't have an optical viewfinder).
Despite it having exactly the same res as my SLR, the image processor doesn't stand comparison. Well, the £400 price difference has to be somewhere...

Well said! My best comment ever recieved was one of
"Wow, those are amazing photos, you must be able to hold the camera really steady!"

That said, I get very frustrated very quickly with compacts, especially the higher end prosumer ones, but I think that comes down to the shutter delay, no hole to peer through, and, crucially, the fact I can't use the buggers.
