So yesterday I drove to Rutland in beautiful weather to have a look around Northfield Farm. There were cows, pigs and a cute lamb called Curly, various food stalls and live folk music and a troupe of Morris Dancers. I met [livejournal.com profile] the_mendicant and a random [livejournal.com profile] vampwillow. I bought bread, Chilli Jam, cheese, beer and two lovely lamb chops which will become dinner tonight. I'd wanted to walk around the farm a bit more to see the sheep out in the fields but then got really tired so I drove home, collapsed and slept til Dr. Who started.

Last night we went to tenpin for some bowling fun (two games on three lanes) and afterwards to Pizza Hut for grub.
I'm getting better but still have no upper body and arm strength to control the ball effectively. I'd need the lightest category with X-Large finger holes (which don't exist). Still, I think if I were to practice more (than once a year), I'd get there. My first game was a 95 (IIRC, it was mid-90s) and the second a 94 which included a strike. If I hadn't had four gutter shots in that game, it would have been a score over 100... [livejournal.com profile] jholloway and [livejournal.com profile] razornet were joint first in that game with 100, then me and then [livejournal.com profile] slick_mink. I wasn't last! *bounce*
Then we killed some time at the arcades (sadly no pool tables available or I would have tried some more action shots) before we headed to PH for consumables. I'd had dinner at home so I only got salad from the bar and some garlic bread. After [livejournal.com profile] autumn_storm's cake, I was stuffed full and almost couldn't move. I won't need anything until (light) dinner after the small bowl of Müsli I just had...
Anyway, photos. All taken with the D70 at ISO 400 (800 when they switched to UV), the kit lens and the SB-600 flashgun in slow mode.

Back home after a wonderful party, a reasonable night's sleep, cooking breakfast (Northfield Farm collar bacon is the food of the gods but Art of Meat sausages aren't bad either) and chilling in front of LotR:FotR.

Thank you to everyone who turned up and last night, especially to [livejournal.com profile] raggedy_man and [livejournal.com profile] the_mendicant for helping out in the kitchen and supplying the gorgeous lamb.
Apologies if you were late and didn't get any of the lamb (of which [livejournal.com profile] the_mendicant said, "I wonder who is going to eat all that meat" but which was gone faster than we could carve it) *impressed*. Even the veg chilli was completely gone by the end of the night, just the pesto nobody touched and there was still half a tub of Dippadoom™ left *boggle* and there was much cheese left, too (grrrr at whoever didn't cover it after they had the last bite).
After much eating (I was really happy with the Mousse this time, leaving out two egg yolks seems to make the mix a lot fluffier and adding chopped choc add that little bit of extra yum) and general chatting, I introduced those who were left and hadn't seen it on Bravo/Adult Swim to Season 1 of the Venture Brothers and succeeded in my goal to both amusing and weirding out my guests. :o)

I was so busy either working in the kitchen, feeding people or chatting that I didn't take any photos at the party, just a few of the roasts which will be online at one point. Right now, I just want to relax in front of a DVD or two and rehydrate even more.

Again, thank you to everyone for a wonderful evening.

Despite the alarm clock going off almost two hours earlier than during the week. *groan*

I was supposed to be at Shire Hall at 8 and figured it couldn't hurt to be a bit early. I got there at about 10 to and the carpark was empty so I phoned my contact who after a while turned up. There was some waiting for a keycard and then we could go in to keep warm. Meanwhile few others had arrived and kept arriving, including [livejournal.com profile] belak_krin.
Outside, we were then divided into groups (press and protesters) and given the general idea of what the two scenes we'd be involved in would be about and we did a dry run (without camera and actors) of the first scene to get an idea of where we're supposed to be and what we were supposed to be doing, which worked quite well.
After another wait (for the crew to finish shooting a scene inside), everything was set up outside. Then we did more rehearsals and finally filming began.
The scene was one of the characters arriving at the court being "greeted" by the press and angry protesters (against the reintroduced death penalty) and entering the building with the protesters and press being prevented from entering by two coppers.
IIRC, there were two slightly different setups filmed, with six or so takes each, not necessarily because things had gone wrong but basically to get the best shot possible.
The second scene was of the character and his lawyer leaving the building and being driven off, with the angry mob of protesters and the press behind him. This was filmed from opposite the entrance (in the first scene the camera was set up inside the entrance) so it took half an hour or so until everything had been moved and set up.
Again a few trial runs and quite a few takes filmed (about 10?).
The final bit filmed wasn't a different scene as such but the last bit of the last scene filmed from inside the car.

We actually wrapped just before 2 and got fed pasta and stuff (there had been bacon rolls and snacks and tea/coffee in the morning) and then send on our way with thanks.
It was a fun experience and an interesting glimpse behind the scene of a film production. While there was quite a bit of waiting (naturally) for us, the whole thing had a very professional atmosphere. All of the crew were very friendly and approachable, which was quite relaxing.

After lunch we set off for Farcet and after an uneventful and thankfully quite dry drive, we arrived at the Humphreys' for an afternoon of gaming fun.
[livejournal.com profile] belak_krin and I first played a match of BloodBowl, then the design copy of Robin D. Laws' Celebrity! card game I had won at the Dragonmeet auction in 05 (have Pelgrane actually released this by now or is this still in development?) and finally Before I kill you, Mr. Bond? (Cheapass Games). The others played Blood Bowl and then The Hobbit.
After Indian delivery dinner, we watched the quite hilarious Lake Placid, followed by Get Shorty, although I left halfway through the latter as I'd seen it and was feeling very tired.

Feeling tired didn't prevent me from switching on the computer at home, having a look at the photos (which turned out a lot better than I anticipated because I was mainly doing it for show rather than actually trying to get real photos). I then thought I'd play some more Sam&Max Episode 3 until I got stuck but finished it instead. Ooops. Either this was the easiest episode so far or I'm getting better at solving the puzzles. Never mind, much fun regardless.

Today I have been sleeping, eating breakfast, watching a bit of TV and generally vegging about. I need to do a pile of washing up and then find something for dinner before another long evening in front of the TV (Top Gear, 24, Lost) and hopefully bed before midnight.

To those of you who missed Primeval on ITV last night, it's being repeated now (4:30).

The premiere of Cirque de Soleil's Alegria at Royal Albert Hall was utterly beautiful last night.
Many many thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] dreamsewingmiko for the ticket!

After taking an early train at 4:45, I just got to the RAH on time to pick up my ticket because I was a muppet and turned right instead of left coming out of South Kensington tube and then had to find the box office. Trundled in to find my seat (fourth row ringside, no less) and asked the lass sitting there if she was one of [livejournal.com profile] dreamsewingmiko's friends and indeed, it turned out to be [livejournal.com profile] ajva so we exchanged a few words about this and that and then [livejournal.com profile] lolliepopp turned up who knows [livejournal.com profile] faerierhona which again proves that you can't go anywhere without meeting someone who knows [livejournal.com profile] faerierhona. ;o)
Then I finally got to meet [livejournal.com profile] dreamsewingmiko who showed up just before the show started and joined us watching the performance.

The acrobatics were stunning (have a look at the link above for the lineup), the clowns entertaining (I got to throw a paper plane!) and the music and singing was very moving (I kept humming the theme last night on my home and this morning, too). A very good night out and I would recommend it to anyone. It's on until the 11th of February, so get your tickets!

After the show we met up with [livejournal.com profile] envoy (yay, another LJ friend finally met IRL) and [livejournal.com profile] jhg by the stage door and headed backstage (or rather downstage into the bowels of RAH) first into [livejournal.com profile] dreamsewingmiko's lair and then to the bar where some awful wine was served. *shudder*, one would have thought you'd get something better at such a prestigious venue, at least it was free. ;oÞ
We found out that royal guests (Prince William and his gf) had watched the premiere, too but hadn't come backstage. Booh. ;o)

Later we wandered to the Kensington Roof Gardens for the official secret After Show Party but there was just enough time for me to have a quick look around and say good-bye before I thought I had to leave so I could get back to Kings X in time. Obviously, I was far too early but had I left five minutes later, I would have been stuck in Kensington as there was a "passenger incident" which shut down the Circle Line and I got the last one...

I was still buzzing from the show so I watched the last bit of Jools Hollands' NYE thing and then two episodes of Monk on DVD until I finally went to bed.

Poker fun

Just got back from Farcet where [livejournal.com profile] autumn_storm and [livejournal.com profile] twentypence were hosting a poker evening, and much fun it was.
I was very much surprised when I came second but my last few hands just didn't match [livejournal.com profile] allucius'. We could probably have played for a few hours more but as [livejournal.com profile] diasporal_waves had to head home, we played til 9:20 to see who had the most chips at that time.

Good fun and good practice for the Charity tournament at the end of the month. I've got a pretty good idea of when to fold and when to bet/raise now so that should help. It won't be a regular feature but I wouldn't say no to a few more poker evenings with good friends.

didn't go as planned in terms of Getting Things Done™, I'm just rubbish. At least I got two loads of washing done and cooked dinner (pork steaks, fried onions, carrots/leeks, new potatoes)
I watched Carnivale last night and felt really tired/shattered so wanted to go to bed when I had finshed the DVD but then various things caught my attention on the net so I didn't go to sleep until 2 am which meant I slept until 11. Bah.

After yummy dinner, I went to the Loft (upstairs at the Graduate) to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] toripink, [livejournal.com profile] dmh, [livejournal.com profile] daevid and a few other gothic reprobates. It was good to catch up again and [livejournal.com profile] toripink looked smashing again but was even taller than usual in her platform boots which made me look tiny. :o(
The first band, Season, started off being not my thing at all (too loud and incoherent) but improved as they went along and ended up being quite enjoyable indeed. I thin the supplied earplugs helped a lot because it was simply too loud.
Symbo were next and they delivered again, playhing lots of fun and bouncy music, including a cool and fast cover of Down Under and a Britney Spears song.
There weren't a lot of people and disregarding the bands' mates, there were maybe 15 people. Shame, really.
The function room hasn't really changed much, it still has the red/green colour scheme with the bit along the windows being the stage (about 20cm high) and another raised platform in the back (in front of the bannister of the skylight) for the mixer desk. The sound system isn't bad but was turned up far too loud for the small (and low) room. The lights (a series of scanners, mostly) would work better for a club dancefloor than a stage, too.

Right, bed now. Full day of usefullness tomorrow, hopefully.

Note: This was the least formal and planned shoot I've done recently and we were all a bit tired and bothered by the heat by the end of it so don't expect anything grand but I think we still managed to catch a few good moments. So, without further ado:

Just shows that I'm still suffering the after-effects from the cold/flu as I only got up an hour ago when I originally wanted to get up at 10 to get things done. *sigh* Oh well, personal well-being is more important  than an untidy place.

Anyway, this weekend is the annual "[livejournal.com profile] raggedy_man's parents have buggered off on holiday and left him in charge of the house - The Fools!" party so I went along, at least last night and it was a very good and relaxing party. Some highlights:
- surprised [livejournal.com profile] ditzy_pole with a rose I nicked off Solomon Burke last night
- various people commented on the fact I had lost weight *beams*
- [livejournal.com profile] belak_krin drunkenly singing various silly folk songs including one about the Tractor Factory Song
- [livejournal.com profile] raggedy_man leading a rendition of the above mentioned song weirding out all those who hadn't heard it before and making those who had too many times cringe
- [livejournal.com profile] devalmont playing a few superb pieces on the guitar, incl. an acoustic version of Once In a Lifetime (*giggles*) and Hurt (Johnny Cash style)

Left just before midnight, drove home, watch Venture Brothers and went to bed.

I now need to sort various urgent things and then make my way into town to meet up with my models for the day. *waves*

Managed to get up at a reasonable time, get ready and drop off my party contributions at [livejournal.com profile] professoryaffle's. [livejournal.com profile] nannyo had already left so I took the bus in, and after having been at the fair for about five minutes, I ran into [livejournal.com profile] nannyo. We walked around a bit, looked at carniverous plants, picked up a program and then acquired a [livejournal.com profile] minspi. More phonecalls were made and the next additions to our group were [livejournal.com profile] nurse_liz and [livejournal.com profile] puddingcat. Next on the list were [livejournal.com profile] raggedy_man and [livejournal.com profile] dr_wez and then [livejournal.com profile] faerierhona, [livejournal.com profile] the_mendicant and [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke. We walked around the fair for a bit, some bought food, some bought tat, it was all very pleasant.

The weather was perfect, sunny but not too hot with a lovely breeze. My hat was a godsend as it protected my head, face and neck from the sun. Strangely, I must have lost some of my resistance, as I have some slight sunburn on one arm, usually I just tan. Then again, today was the first really sunny day I've been out in for a longer time.

After [livejournal.com profile] puddingcat and [livejournal.com profile] nannyo left, I spend some time alternating between the East Stage and the Bigwam Stage (too bad they are so far apart) and caught some really good music at the Bigwam, especially a punk band called Symbo and a more generic rock band called Respond with a mad showoff guitarist.

Randomly ran into the guys from Rome Burns and had a nice little chat with [livejournal.com profile] faerierhona.

Around 6, I was quite knackered from all the walking around so I called it a day and too the bus back to [livejournal.com profile] professoryaffle's where I met loads of new people *waves* and had some fantastic food. I had heard about [livejournal.com profile] professoryaffle's cooking before so I wasn't really surprised. The home-made sausages  and the (rum/lime/mint drink) were particularly good.
The party was nice, mellow and very friendly and although only knowing a handful of people there, I immediately got on well with everyone.

There will be three sets of photo previews tomorrow: One unlocked generic Strawberry Fair, one locked and one filtered post for the party.

Tomorrow's diet will consist of not a lot of calories, I think. *burp*

Thank you to everyone who came to the meal tonight and also those who later stayed for the Calling. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

[livejournal.com profile] the_mendicant and [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke picked me up and we were far too early so we had a browse around the Asian supermarket. I picked up some chili oil and will have to go back there at one point for other supplies.
At the Cafe Adriatic, [livejournal.com profile] raggedy_man was already waiting and the others arrived soon, too, except Ola, who had a big deadline and couldn't make it. :o(
Masses of delicious and reasonably priced food were ordered and enjoyed by everyone. I had the smoked tuna carpaccio with rocket salad as starter, roast pig belly with onion smashed potatoes as main and the dark chocolate coffee cup as dessert with a very nice Barbera. It was all wonderful.
I immediately made the resolution to go there once every month until I've tried everything on the menu. :o)

Got a text from Calling John asking when I would be there. Apparently, I didn't have the last set so we had to scramble a bit to get out of the restaurant but I made it in time.
Apologies for screwing up the first track but bloody Loki had switched off the cross fader again which I noticed too late. Sorry about that.
It was quite quiet so I had the occasional empty dancefloor but on the other hand I was surprised how well some of the other tracks were received (especially some of the medieval ones like Drachenschiff, or Samsas Traum and Lluther) so woo for a non standard set that not only made a difference but was actually liked.
After my set, I chatted to [livejournal.com profile] vyvyan and [livejournal.com profile] razornet for a while and then caught a taxi home at about 1:40.
All good.

After a few delays and about an hour of agony due to stomach/bowel cramps caused by trapped wind, I'm finally back home.

It's been a fantastic weekend that involved meeting old friends, witnessing a wonderful handfasting ceremony with a good party afterwards, seeing various bits of Glasgow and the countryside, meeting new people and making new friends and a long and nice night out.

Thanks are in order:
Firstly, to [livejournal.com profile] rich_redcap and [livejournal.com profile] fithefairie for the invitation and assorted friends of theirs for making stuff happening.
And also to [livejournal.com profile] sublevel3 for crash and company plus [livejournal.com profile] lavindelf and her bloke [livejournal.com profile] fossilised for the tour of the countryside on Saturday. Meeting [livejournal.com profile] purplehez, [livejournal.com profile] anyanka_demon and Andy was great, too. And [livejournal.com profile] purplehez, we need to chat more about medieval music next time, ideally when we aren't drunk/tired. :o)

There will be a small photo preview later this evening.

[livejournal.com profile] fried_chicken brought over [livejournal.com profile] anwen_swift and we had loads of fun taking photos. The "little 'un" is a natural model and likes to pose. She just needs to work on her attention span. It was a great but tiring experience.
Went with [livejournal.com profile] fried_chicken on a quest to find take-away for lunch on a Sunday. Eventually we did and the Shish Kebab was enormous and very good, especially at that price (£3.90).
Then said good-bye to the visitors, packed the car and waited for Sami's text so I could go to Urmston and pick him up from the station.
Took the A628/A1 route back which was a lot less busy than the M6 so eventually got back at a quarter past seven.

Just downloading the photos to my PC and then an early night. I'm knackered but happy.

Many thanks again to my gorgeous models!

- Rock School on Friday was pretty cool, although I find nobody at that school ever having heard about KISS rather unbelievable. "I wear more makeup and higher heels than your mother!" Hehehe.
- Did some more photo editing. Generic photos from ARA and Manchester should go online today. It'll be a while until the full collections will be online, though. So many photos to sort through... (the gargoyle in the userpic is from the fountain in front of City Hall)
- Yesterday was a bit hectic, too as I overslept and then it took me 1.5 hours to get to the Holloways'. I was stuck around the Backs for an hour, no idea what held up the traffic that badly. The queue reached around the roundabout towards the river/Trumpington Road, too, but was gone towards Newnham, so something on Trumpington Road, I assume.
- Rose Crescent, [livejournal.com profile] jholloway's Unknown Armies game, was excellent, however. We're now deep in the Big Ritual and considering the other participants/adversaries, we're doing remarkably well, most likely due to sheer luck and bloodymindedness than actual skill but still. I think Coat has given up trying to understand what's going on and just rolls with it which seems to do him just fine.
- Got home and cooked dinner with enough leftovers for today and then headed over to [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke's to say Hi to [livejournal.com profile] ditzy_pole who had been to a wedding in the area and was crashing over. Was good to see and chat with you again! *waves*
- Did a detour via town because I wanted to flyer the Kambar but there was no way of getting past the queue so I went back home. I should have gotten there earlier but left Robin's too late.
- Did some more photo editing and watched H, another Korean thriller about a serial killer (which is OK but nothing special).
- Today, it's sorting out CDs for Octaine on Thursday and possibly some more photo editing. I need to finish the Manchester lot before my trip to Berlin.

Work was longer than expected so was a bit late at the pub. It was good to see [livejournal.com profile] mazzarc (purple corset!), [livejournal.com profile] medivh_tirisfal and [livejournal.com profile] belak_krin again, the latter having just returned from Cornwall, this time for good. There was some geeking about photography and artwork and listening to Mouse's anecdotes from New York. Here's a pic of Mouse, looking dodgy )
Went on to the Calling, where I was jumped by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] _ebb_ and had a quick chat. More pretty women in funky outfits turned up, including [livejournal.com profile] akonken, [livejournal.com profile] feanelwa and [livejournal.com profile] necro_angel.
The first set was very good and quite off the norm, with almost as much German content as mine, including ASP. :o)
After that, the quality of the music dropped dramatically, although [livejournal.com profile] _ebb_ managed to drag me onto the dancefloor a few times.
Called it a night a bit after midnight and gave [livejournal.com profile] davefish a lift home. Had a look at the photos I took, a few of which might even make it into public, despite the crap lights. This won't happen for a while, though. I'm busy tomorrow evening, Thursday is packing and travelling. I should have some time at home, although editing huge photos on my dated laptop is a bit of a pain. We'll see.
Good night
