Date: 28/3/06 12:28 am (UTC)I think stuff like this is more of a symptom of government bureaucrats wanting to assert their authority than it is about them being paranoid. Little people feeling good about themselves by using big government powers to beat up other people.
I could be cynical. I have always detested immigration officials, even before 9/11. I’m sure that colors my opinion of them. I had some run in's with them myself when I was living in Europe. Remind me to tell you the story one day of the time they escorted me into a small room and put on the white rubber gloves....
