The eternal french fry
15 Mar 2006 10:51 pmJust watched the extras on Supersize Me. One of the bits is an experiment in which they put various things into glas jars and left them in there for a long time: A Big Mac and a few other McD sandwiches, a portion of McD fries, plus a portion of chips from a regular restaurant and a burger from a regular restaurant. The last two items were gone quickest, in only a couple of days, they had gone mouldy and horrible and were soon thrown out. The other McD sandwiches started to go rather quickly but the Big Mac held on without showing any sign of breaking down for quite a while. The MacFries never ever showed a single bit of fluffy mould, not even after 10 weeks, when even the Big Mac had a huge fur coat.
So far, fries have been the only thing I'd eat at McD, if push came to shove and I had to eat something and a McD would be the only thing at hand. I will never ever do so again...

Eternal diet
Date: 16/3/06 12:38 am (UTC)Today I needed it as I have problems in the morning, had a 9 am interview and needed a sugar rush, however I did not think to eat as normally I have 2 meals a day at most and then could not think or speak coherantly or on the ball. Who knows, food and more significantly the high sugar content of McDonalds might have got me hyper and awake for the hour until the sugar withdrawal kicks in.
However I do seem to have strange cravings for KFC or sometimes the KFC clone type place which has chicken and ribs, KFC should do ribs. Of course as I am on a diet KFC is not exactly the best place to eat so normally I fight the cravings off.

Date: 16/3/06 08:13 am (UTC)Like the bloke from the NYC chip shop (who serve deep fried Twinkies and chocolate bars among other things) said, he doesn't suggest that people eat there every day, let alone every meal but once in a while (month or couple of weeks). McD don't say that and that's the problem the film is trying to address.

Date: 16/3/06 01:05 am (UTC)Can I smoke that burger?
Date: 16/3/06 09:22 am (UTC)During one drunken night last summer, a friend shoved a McD cheeseburger into my hand, the first McD/BK/etc.-burger I would have had in close to a decade, and I just remember all the strange endorphins and rushes that went through my body when I dug in. I realised there and then that this stuff is the Crack of food. And so I returned to not eating there.

I like food which keeps well but there are limits.

Date: 16/3/06 11:40 am (UTC)I always remember a 50's style American Diner in London. The resturant was even in one of those strange almost trailer type metal tubes things (an American version of prefab I guess) to create the authentic 50's feel. The staff would serve you at the table, when taking your order ask you how you wanted your burger cooked, and have to pin it together with a pin with a flag in it.
