Just watched the extras on Supersize Me. One of the bits is an experiment in which they put various things into glas jars and left them in there for a long time: A Big Mac and a few other McD sandwiches, a portion of McD fries, plus a portion of chips from a regular restaurant and a burger from a regular restaurant. The last two items were gone quickest, in only a couple of days, they had gone mouldy and horrible and were soon thrown out. The other McD sandwiches started to go rather quickly but the Big Mac held on without showing any sign of breaking down for quite a while. The MacFries never ever showed a single bit of fluffy mould, not even after 10 weeks, when even the Big Mac had a huge fur coat.

So far, fries have been the only thing I'd eat at McD, if push came to shove and I had to eat something and a McD would be the only thing at hand. I will never ever do so again...

Eternal diet

Being one of these people on a forever diet I rarely eat at McDonalds. The only time I do is if I am working a three job 18 hour day and between jobs 2 & 3 (usually a shop and a bar job) I have half an hour and need a sugar rush to handle 5 hours (6 including closing) in the bar.

Today I needed it as I have problems in the morning, had a 9 am interview and needed a sugar rush, however I did not think to eat as normally I have 2 meals a day at most and then could not think or speak coherantly or on the ball. Who knows, food and more significantly the high sugar content of McDonalds might have got me hyper and awake for the hour until the sugar withdrawal kicks in.

However I do seem to have strange cravings for KFC or sometimes the KFC clone type place which has chicken and ribs, KFC should do ribs. Of course as I am on a diet KFC is not exactly the best place to eat so normally I fight the cravings off.

KFC used to be the only fast food I liked but I can't stand it anymore.

Who are you, btw?

I love McDonalds. Like with anything its all in moderation. The guy who did Supersize Me went about it the wrong way. No one eats that much fast food. And if they do, they deserve everything they get.

No, his point was to disprove McD's statement that their food is healthy, wholesome etc. If going by their claims alone, you should be able to live on a diet of their foods alone but you can't.

Like the bloke from the NYC chip shop (who serve deep fried Twinkies and chocolate bars among other things) said, he doesn't suggest that people eat there every day, let alone every meal but once in a while (month or couple of weeks). McD don't say that and that's the problem the film is trying to address.

Quite, but how he went about disprooving it was the wrong way to do it.

Can I smoke that burger?

Good sir, I applaud your decision. :-)
During one drunken night last summer, a friend shoved a McD cheeseburger into my hand, the first McD/BK/etc.-burger I would have had in close to a decade, and I just remember all the strange endorphins and rushes that went through my body when I dug in. I realised there and then that this stuff is the Crack of food. And so I returned to not eating there.

I can see where your comming from on the endorphins, when I was working nights the warehouse (airline parcels) would do a McDonalds run about 5am, partly as the McDonalds was the only place open but also because most of the people were getting fatigued (especially on the 9 hour shift so they had another 3 hours to go), and a lot of those people myself included were also putting in daytime overtime so they could clock up nearly 80 hour weeks (weekend overtime too), a lot of the people their myself included looked like Zombies dropping dead with exhaustion, living of McDonalds on a work eat, sleep, eat, work, eat, sleep type existance.

It's the food scientists latest evil - some kind of evil super-fat/preservative that just doesn't get used the same way as everything else. Found in most fast foods, ready meals etc for stopping food from going off.

None of the food scientists I know eat McDonalds, or would accept work from them. Would you mind? This tar is a little sticky and you need to clean your brush.

I had my first McDonalds this year last week and the deli sandwich I had was pretty bland but those fries *sigh*, I agree with the poster above who says that they are the crack cocaine of fast food.

Sounds like I should give them a wide berth now, I hadn't watched the extras on Supersize Me yet.

I wouldn't eat at either, I don't like a burger for which the last process in its preparation is stick it in the microwave to reheat it cos the burger was cooked half an hour ago.

I'm also not surprised about the fires immunity to decay, all the stuff McD serve is at least half E number and presevative.
I like food which keeps well but there are limits.

McDonalds don't tend to use microwaves so much, I was surprised burger king uses them more. McDonalds tends to dump them faster. However you can ask for a freshly prepared burger, its usually easier to ask the counter supervisor for one. It sometimes takes them 15 minutes though, however some have brought it to the table. They do it and don't argue or try and fob you off as sometimes the companies own secret shoppers are the ones asking and being picky on what they have to check how friendly and willing the staff are to allow customers to follow the company policy of letting them choice what to have in the burger and how its done.

I always remember a 50's style American Diner in London. The resturant was even in one of those strange almost trailer type metal tubes things (an American version of prefab I guess) to create the authentic 50's feel. The staff would serve you at the table, when taking your order ask you how you wanted your burger cooked, and have to pin it together with a pin with a flag in it.
