As it's less than two weeks until I host [livejournal.com profile] camgothfilmclub on the 19th, I joined ScreenSelect as well so I get a higher chance of renting The Edukators on time and it's going to be delivered soon.

I'm showing two German films, both of which I own as the German originals. As if suspecting this, I checked before christmas and true enough, there aren't any foreign subtitles. Most major English language releases have foreign subtitles but apparently not German ones.
As I really don't fancy buying DVDs again I alreay own just to show them once, I put them up on lovefilm. I got Good-bye Lenin quickly enough but The Edukators have been sitting on the top of my rental queue for ages so I panicked a bit. Panic over.

Sounds like you'll be OK, but if there's any problem I could lend you "The Edukators".

It'll be fine (I just got the notice it will be delivered next) but thanks for the offer.

on the matter of German films, if you havn't seen Downfall yet, I advise you to do so. Somewhat depressing (obviously) but very powerfully acted.

It was on TV last night!

Good choice Goodbye Lenin, one of my favourite films!

Huh? I assume Sky Movies or something?

GBL is good even if you don't know anything about East Germany, it's funny if you do (we used to get DDR TV and radio) and it's hilarious if you actually lived/grew up there (as I'm assured by some friends although they also poked a few holes in it but only minor ones).

More4, so we Freeviewers got to see it...

Having recently seen Bruno Ganz in Pane e Tulipani, I'm even more impressed with his acting skills.

I saw Goodbye Lenin for the first time the other day and loved it. I missed The Edukators at the Arts, despite [livejournal.com profile] lsur pestering me, so may well turn up for that. As has been previously mentioned, Downfall is excellent.

It's going to be at [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke's but I'm sure a lift can be arranged.

Actually, the Edukators is a bit weird - I mean, why choose theme which harks back to the Baader-Meinhof era?
