Question: Can you recommend a good telephoto lens that isn't too expensive? For a Minolta SLR camera...

I'm afraid I'm going for rather high quality these days which comes with a considerable price tags.
Sigma (http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/) are usually very good, quite a bit cheaper than comparable proprietary ones and they produce lenses for most major makes.
Or, you could ask suzerain who is a Minolta user.

One of the reasons I've been doing so much lately is getting as much practice as I can and it seems to pay off.
I know the areas I need to improve on and gradually I seem to be getting there. It takes a lot of concentration, though, something I often forget and then I regret it afterwards.

I couldn't quite get the reflection on the left eye (as you look at it) to be exactly around the pupil as in the other one but I'm very pleased with it indeed.
