Just got your email about Midway City and thought it was a reply to the Gaming Addicts LJ so deleted it and went to reply on the site.

Now I realise it was a direct email (whoops!).

We will have copies with us at Dragonmeet :p

Cool, but I need mine before, as I'm running a demo game. I have a printed PDF but the real book is nicer as the illustrations in the pdf are at reduced quality.
Will order as soon as it's in your system.

Any chance of a more coherent review for those who would really like to see this but have next to no free time so need to be convinced that it's really good?

I thought about this and found it difficult to come up with something that wouldn't spoil anything.

Pro:
- absolutely gorgeous, a perfect blend of anime and CGI
- it has a number of good thoughts about the whole human/robot relation thing and the consequences. A lot of this should have been in I, Robot but wasn't.

Cons:
- the characters waffle a lot which isn't helped by the subtitles. The subtitles are quite well translated but often go into Final Fantasy style dialogue.
- it drags a bit at times

All in all, I wouldn't say it's really good but if you like that style of anime (darker, more intelligent rather than cute/fluffy/weird/brutal), I can only recommend it.

I've just seen it and to be honest, I'd have to say it was rubbish.

- the anime/CGI thing doesn't work at all
- most of the film is spent trying to sound profound by quoting various authors
- the "philosophy" aspect of the plot is very basic but sound and would have worked if it weren't so laboured
- the plot is extremely linear, with the quotes & obligatory philosophical chat detracting from it somewhat

All in all, it reminded me of an anime cross between 2046 and the Matrix sequels.
