Our building is vibrating. Not quite shaking but it feels like those short bumpy turbulences you get on airplanes.

Anyone else in the Chesterton/Church Road/St. Andrews Park area feeling this? If not, it might be our building lifting off soon...

How wierd.... has it stopped?

It was intermittent but seems to have stopped now.

There is earth/excavation work going on in the empty plot next to ours (new residential development) but it didn't feel like the vibrations you get from piledrivers/boring machines.

I think I've banned this film from my mind because I can't remember any of it (saw it on a plane).

We often get mighty ground shakes in our office too. Except it is usually someone rocking the vending machine in the canteen back and forth to shake loose some tasty goodies. We're not thieving of course - the stupid thing keeps getting stuck and taking our money. *coughs*

They've obviously just unleashed the new Super Bus on to the Unsuspecting Streets Of Cambridge... *rumble* *rumble*

Or Chesterton is sliding into the Cam.

The latter wouldn't surprise me one bit. It's bound to happen in the next hundred years or so.

Hmmmm. I'd best away to the shops and buy a dinghy, then.

Might have been an earthquake. We do occasionally get very small ones.

On the other hand there was a story in the newspaper saying one company in the Science Park has had a hole appear in their car park for no apparent reason. We do live on a swamp.

The vibrations went on and off for half an hour so I doubt it was an earthquake.
I could have been the construction workers on the plot next to ours but it felt differently.

When I get that it's usually a deisel train waiting for signals to change. They tend to stop on the railway line just across from my house then rev their engines. We get weird vibrations that you can feel in your gut.

*thinks* That's actually quite close to what it felt like but there are no railway lines (or roads with heavy traffic) for miles.

No mention of it here - so it seems unlikely. They only list things over magnitude 2.5 but I doubt you'd feel anything smaller than that.

[livejournal.com profile] ffutures gave me an idea. It did feel like the vibrations you get near railway lines or on bridges.

Yeah, seems more likely - earthquakes only tend to last a few seconds, maybe a minute at most, but can sometimes be followed by aftershocks.

Maybe some kind of Lovecraftian subterrainian horror?

I was reading a Mythos story the other night where such a horror tunneled under Huntingdonshire. You never know...
