karohemd: self portrait (photo 85mm)

A candid shot from across the room.
He's got his eyes closed but I still like this picture.
The only light was the large window camera left.

That is a sensational image Ozzy. And the eyes being closed makes it all the better. The light and contrast is exceptional, it has such a rawness, a naturalness to it. I guess as a photographer, you just know when you have captured the essence of somebody.

I remember somebody saying about a painted portrait, more than a photo it captures the essence of somebody because it's not just a moment captured in time, it's a 2D representation of the model from somebody that knows them. Well, although I haven't met him that image seems to capture that. I suppose only you can say if it truly captures him but I think it's a remarkable image.

The moustache, the glasses...the darkness of certain areas seem to highlight the defining characteristics all the more. It's a beautiful image.

Thank you!

*nods* Those are the reasons I posted it because as you say it shows his defining characteristics and the textures came out really well.
