[livejournal.com profile] muskrat_john just posted the winner of the Diana Jones Award for Excellence in Gaming: Ticket to Ride.
Oddly, the other two contenders were an RPG (Dogs in the Vineyard) and a online chat RPG (Code of Unaris).
Those are three completely different types of games you can't really compare which makes it a bit unfair, IMHO.

It's like giving an award for the best item of clothing and the shortlist consists of a pair of boots, a lumberjack shirt and a pair of combat trousers.

Depending on the boots they'd get my vote. Combat trousers second.

Combat trousers win every time, you can't keep your stuff in the others.

Well, the "online chat RPG" is actually a book. It's just a system that's geared to be USED via online chat. But yes, two RPGs against a board game is a bit odd.

Last year they had 4 rpgs (3 tabletop, 1 LARP) up against the Scandanavian Gaming Community. I don't know who would have picked up the award had the Scandanavians won.

But I don't mind, I like the crazy mixed up idealism of the whole thing. It's more fun than the Origins, at least the Diana Jones people have an award ceremony.
