Got up at 3:30 to catch a 5 o'clock bus to Heathrow. No problems there. Check-in passed with no problems and then I had almost three hours to kill. No squelching noises from customs so Dave Wade probably wasn't there yet. At hand luggage check at the gate the customers glanced at my Mask of 1000 Faces badge (Christopher Lee, Advanced Obfuscate) and then jerked his head around to look at it again, but never said anything and I knew better than to make a comment. The flight went smoothly with departure and arrival on time. Shame that my window seat was directly above the wing so I couldn't see much even when the clouds were gone. Greenland from above looks awesome, mountains and glaciers at the coast, nothing but snow inland (sorry, Robin, no penguins, it being the north). Oh, and American Airlines certainly have the oldest and ugliest flight attendants I've ever seen... Canada seems to consist mainly of lakes, and the north of the US is really boring. Too bad the Rockies were mostly in clouds, but Colorado was fine and looked amazing.
Customs check in LA went without problems as well.
After 15 minutes waiting, I was in my way to Burbank in a shuttle van. Cool thing was that one of the passengers lived in the Hollywood Hills, so I got a free tour of Hollywood and the Hills as well. It still feels like a dream of actually seeing Sunset Boulevard and other sights for real.
Arrived in the hotel and checked into my room, making good use of the tub and stretching a bit on the king size bed. Went downstairs and the first familiar faces were those of Neil Hook, Dave Wade, Rik Sowden and Anthony Wade. Later, Charlotte and Chris Turner from Runnymede turned up, then Christi.
I think the UK players at ICC were: Dave Wade, Andy R, Josie, Neil Hook, Rik Sowden, Cameron, Jon Renfrey, Anthony Wade, Dave McNay with gf, Christi, Charlotte, Chris T, Nathan H, the guy from Kent whose name I can never remember, Mick Hudson, and myself.
As I was in dire need to put my feet up, I went upstairs to my room, switched on the telly and watched Enterprise. Hm, I think I can wait until it's here on SkyOne, not too impressed. Typical StarTrek plots. My favourite character is the Vulcan, not because it's a babe in a catsuit ([livejournal.com profile] evil_john will love her) but because of her dry humour. Scott Bakula is very relaxed, very Kirk-like as Captain. What I think they got really right is the tech, it looks primitive enough from a TNG point of view, yet advanced enough from a present pov. Continuity problem: Klingons have modern ridges on their foreheads. Anyway, enough of this, back to ICC.
After having been up for 26 hours, I went to bed and slept very well.
