Today, I received the image data of my MRI scan.
Unfortunately, the images aren't very big but you can make out quite a bit of detail.
I'm currently playing with the imaging software that lets you scroll through the slices in a view and will post more.
This is a projection view (clockwise from top left: top-down, back-front, left-right):

Look! A brain!

I wasn't even allowed to see the pictures from my MRI scans. *sulks*

Well, it wasn't a medical scan, it was part of a neuro-linguistic study I participated in (the results of which should be available soon).

My cue to pimp some Buffy fanfic:

The Amazing and True Adventures of Dawn Summers and Her Zombie Twin by Kyra Cullinan. A lovely little story.

Gives a new meaning to lj-cut. We always suspected you were soft on the inside :)

Cool - I have several sets of piccies for my brain - perhaps I should scan them in too

What's that big empty space in the middle? ;-)

They look like T1-weighted images. Your eyeballs are dark, but the subcutaneos fat's bright as is your bone marrow. Air and cortical bone are black (regardless of weighting) because they don't contain hydrogen. Basically, T1-weighting gives good soft tissue contrast and is used to image anatomical structures.

Let me know if you want any more info. I like MRI; it's a lot more interesting than ultrasound :)

I *think* you can change the weighting in the imaging software I had to download to open the image file. You can certainly change the colours, some of which have odd effects. There are loads of options, though and most don't mean anything to me.

Shame that the scan didn't go lower than the chin. It would have been interesting to see if I'm really missing two vertebrae in my neck (which would explain its extreme shortness).
