My favourite photo of the weekend. Someone practicing the Sabre form which wasn't part of the workshop. This guy was absolutely fantastic but I think the picture speaks for itself.

For the photo geeks: Kit lens at 70mm, f4.5, 1/250s, ISO 800 as I wanted as little motion blur as possible. Cropped and only a bit of fiddling with exposure/shadows and noise reduction in CameraRAW.

He looks like an older Ewen Bremner.

It's only wood, though. You'd want the real thing (http://www.wudang.se/jian/html/dao1.html).
Chinese sabres are beautiful but a bit tricky to wield as they are weighted towards the tip, not the hilt.

Or alternatively, pretty much any martial arts supply store should carry wooden training sabres.

Well, eventually I'll have one... too busy saving at the moment!

The wooden ones are only about a tenner, maybe 15 quid if you want a really nice one.
So what are you saving for? :o)

Thanks! :o)
Taking good photos wasn't easy because the sunlight flooding in throught the skylights and windows created a lot of bright and shadow areas but thanks to shooting in RAW, you can do a lot afterwards.

BTW, check [livejournal.com profile] nikon_d70 for a post with a link to the new version of the firmware.
