Slept in, had long breakfast, mooched around online and then made my way to the station. Met
mazzarc and
mobbsy and off we went. Had dinner at a tiny Japanese place (Komatsu in Gt. Windmill St.) off Piccadilly Circus, introducing
mazzarc to both chopsticks and Japanese cuisine (we took it easy on her and she had noodles ;o). My original plan had been to have some eel but when there I fancied a warm meal so I had the tempura set menu (miso soup, boiled spinach - very nice, salmon and pickled radish sashimi, rice and tempura - prawn and various veg).
The Mean Fiddler was an easy walk away but when we got there a bit after 6, the queue stretched around three corners already. Rather usefully, a rather large Cambridge contingent (
lnr,
emperor and assorted others) waited just before the third corner so we skipped the rest. The queue actually didn't start moving until an hour later but the time was shortened with chats and several weirdos (a drunk randomly hugging people, a what we thought evangelical preacher but
mobbsy posted details what he really was on about - at least he didn't use his megaphone, and a rather stoned bloke trying to sell books on yoga).
When we got in, the first support act (Amplify or Amplifier) had already started and they weren't bad at all in an contemporary indie rock kind of way. Breed 77 were next and quite good, too but a bit samey for my liking, altough the Spanish acoustic elements gave a nice touch.
And then the main act. They rocked a lot and put on a fantastic show, the setlist being a mix of classic tracks and Metallica covers, a couple from Reflections, I think only one from the new album (sadly) and finishing with their Black Metal rendition of Hall of the Mountain King. \m/
Almost got lost on the way back due to taking the wrong Northern Line but made it back to Kings Cross eventually, picked up my CDs from my friends' place and found good seats in the fast(ish) train home.
Bed now, tidying and other housework tomorrow.
