Enlighten me. Johnny Cash, Luther Allison, and of course Pantera - but who are the other two?

Waylon Jennings ('02) and Townes van Zandt ('97).

Waylon had been very lucky not to die in the late 60s. He was supposed to be on the same plane as Buddy Holly and Richie Valens but got a strange feeling at the airport and didn't get onto the plane - which then crashed.

The title of your set refers to a song written and recorded by David Allen Coe, and it's entitled, "The Best Country and Western Song Ever Made." It was covered a few years ago him and several other country artists, and a new verse was added. (Wow, is my inner geek showing yet? :-)

BTW, I don't know if this interests you or not, but my hometown is about 45 minutes from where John Mellencamp grew up and currently lives. Many of the places that he refers to in his earlier music are places that I frequented when I would sneak down and visit Indiana University as a teen.

*grins* Finally someone picks up on it!
I didn't know about the re-release, though.

Cool. I'd love it if people sang about the places I lived in or nearby...
