Busy at work but managed to get out in time, had a pizza at The Zebra and waited for [livejournal.com profile] akonken and [livejournal.com profile] jholloway to arrive who had gotten a little lost.
Wandered around the funfair a bit, taking some cool pics of illuminated rides and waited for the firework display to start. It wasn't bad but I think they used to be better and bigger and better coordinated/choreographed. There wasn't much structure, just bit after bit, sometimes overlapping in ways that didn't really make sense. The best ones were the wriggling screamers. I took about 70 photos but there will only be about 10 really good ones. The setup (handheld, rather close so sometimes had to point straight up) wasn't ideal and obviously I hadn't really photographed fireworks before. Still, I'm quite happy with the results. More wibble about technique etc. in a separate post.

After it had finished, we slowly made our way out through the masses. I then realized that parking in Jesus Lane hadn't been such a good idea after all, as traffic was diverted via Emmanuel St (both Victoria Ave. and Maids Causeway were closed) so it took us quite a while to get out of Cambridge.

No problems at all traffic-wise, just finding the A15 was a bit tricky because of the roadworks. We got to [livejournal.com profile] autumn_storm's in the end, though. Quite a few people there, some I knew from previous parties, some I didn't.
We were right on time for the private fireworks to start which weren't bad, either. [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke has usurped [livejournal.com profile] raggedy_man's throne by sticking a rocket so tightly into the ground that it didn't lift off and exploded there and then. Thankfully, nobody got hurt and nothing was damaged as it was just a small one.
Then we headed off to the field where the big ones were launched. Some very good rockets indeed.

Back at the house, sat around, munched breadsticks with Dippadoom™, chatted and had a good time.

Drove back without getting lost, chatting about gaming and music. Dropped [livejournal.com profile] akonken and [livejournal.com profile] jholloway off in Newnham, got in, downloaded the pics and wrote this.

Bed now, photos tomorrow.
