[Cam] Spam

My cam account receives more and more spam. The thing is, it's not available anywhere, I've not used it to sign up to any service (except yahoogroups but they mangle emails). The only place I can think of is the approvals database.
Thunderbird's filters are quite good but it's extra traffic I don't want or need. Grrrr.

More llikely that someone with a virus has your cam account listed in their address book because you have sent them something from said account??

No virii, just spam, mostly mortgage related for some reason...

The virii are used to harvest the address, so that when your (hypothetical) machine is infected, the addresses you know can be sold on for profit.

Clever little marketing scam.

There are bots that surf the web, look for valid email addresses, and use them. Likely your email is listed on some publically accessable website. I tested this - I got NO spam at all until I listed my Gmail account on the Spectrum site - then I got a small trickle.

Unless you're listed on other Cam webpages as a point of contact or something...although people are good about asking about putting phone numbers/postal address up, they don't always ask before including email addresses for people...
