I thought when I leave at 2pm, I should be in Reading at 4, maybe 4:30 at the latest.
It seems Reading is cursed just like Manchester. Whenever I go to Manchester, my car breaks down in some way, whenever I go to Reading, some horrible traffic situation happens.
Just after Junction 17, traffic suddenly stops. Dead. No one moves. Traffic report on radio talks about an overturned lorry. I sit completely still for about half an hour, then it's another hour or so of stop and go. The lorry with trailer had flipped over and across all three lanes, it was just about possible for one car at a time to squeeze past. They were still cleaning the site up when I passed it on my way back.
Got to Reading eventually just after 6, found Nando's but no [livejournal.com profile] claire_wain or [livejournal.com profile] sogoth. I got a table and waited. At 6:45 I got really hungry and ordered ahead thinking 'if Paul is stuck in some horrible traffic and can't get here, I'll have to run Church of Madness on my own, I might just have enough CDs on me' and with that, [livejournal.com profile] sogoth turned up. Phew! ;o)
Had some nicely spicy chicken, chatted a bit and made our way to the Rising Sun. I played the first set which seemed to have been well received, I even had someone asking about Cultus Ferox. Result, I'd say. Just towards the end of my second set, while ASP was playing, a rather trendy looking bloke comes up to the DJ boat (no typo) and asked me if I had two things I didn't have on me and then:
He: Do you have any Negative Format
Me: *blinks* ... Negative Format?
He: Yes
Me: Yes, I have!! What would you like to hear?
Not a request I'd expect at Church of Madness and definitely not from someone looking like him. He chatted to us for a bit and seemed to know his stuff. Quite impressive.

Chatted to various of [livejournal.com profile] sogoth's friends about music and Octaine, was complimented on my sets and [livejournal.com profile] sogoth played the best cover version EVAR™, so all in all a great time. I'll definitely be back.
On my way back, I realised too late that the M11 was closed from Duxford so had to take the detour via the A505, unfortunately behind a rather big lorry. Bah.

Oh well, I'm back in one piece and it was fun. Bed now, Rush tomorrow in London.

Is the Apocalyptica song a cover of Rammstein's 'Seeman'? If so I would very much like to hear it - it's one of my favourite Rammstein songs.
Glad to hear the night went well!

It is, and I actually played it in my last Calling set.
I might play it again on the 28th, if you ask nicely, so turn up early. :o)

The only time I've ever had a motorbike nicked was at a games con in Reading. To make matters worse, the police found the bloody thing (long story which ended up costing me more than buying a new bike would have done...)

Reading and its traffic/street system are cursed, I tell you!
Curiously enough, last night was the first time I found my way out of Reading immediately without getting lost once...
