What a weekend.
Friday
Bus didn't turn up so I missed the train I wanted to get but that was no prob in the end. Dropped off my stuff at Hedi's and headed to Electrowerkz, immediately running into
jonny_eol and chatting for a while. Then from the corner of my eye, I spotted a short red bob which could only belong to
rotkopf (Good to see you and Clive again!).
First act were Psyclon Nine who weren't that great probably also because of the inferior sound setup. The live bass made it a little more interesting, though.
Next were Lamia who I hadn't heard any stuff from before and immediately bought two CDs afterwards. Reasonably harsh electronica with classically trained singer. Wow! Think a voice like Qntal or Helium Vola but with harsher music. Very good.
And finally, Feindflug, the main act of the night. As their music on CD is purely electronic without vocals, I never thought they'd work that well live but they did. Mainly due to the live percussion which made the whole thing more organic. Superb stuff, dead impressed.
Alternator afterwards was good fun, good, harsh music (Clive played a killer set) and lots of eye candy both among the crowd and the very fit pole dancers. ;o) As the music got a bit too techno-y for my taste, I left a bit after 2am and walked to my place of crash which took me not quite half an hour, as I was quite knackered. Found myself something to snack on, showered and collapsed.
Saturday
Didn't get up til past 11, had yummy breakfast mainly consiting of toast and jams and marmalades made by Heidi's mother. Chatted a bit and then decided to take a bus and the DLR to Canary Wharf to wander around the fantastic architecture for a bit. Had some reasonable salad and bread at on of the mainy canalside places and wandered back.
Back at the flat, got changed and wandered to Angel to have dinner at a superb Turkish cafe, chatted a bit too long and almost forgot about the gig.
When I got there, Deathboy had already been on. Oh well, should be able to catch them again sometime. Had forgotten to get cash from the machine so could buy only one CD (7 years famine), instead of the three or four I would have bought otherwise. Maybe a good thing... ;o)
Met
jonny_eol again but nobody else I recognized.
Katscan were OK but Inertia were really rather good. Good vocals and live drums made it very accessible to watch.
And then the main act. This Morn' Omina really pulled all the stops and played a great bouncy set which soon got most of the audience dancing. Probably the least active on stage (two knob twiddlers and one percussionist) but the visuals helped a bit and I just let myself go listening to the music. Fantastic!
Went to Slimelight afterwards as I had a free entry flyer. Good first set on the middle floor. I didn't really dance except to two tracks. Randomly met
lsur and chatted to him for a while but then left around midnight so I could catch the last tube. I really wasn't up for another 20+ minute walk.
When I got back, Heidi was still up watching Neon Genesis Evangelion which lasted til about two when I gave up and went to bed.
Sunday
Got up at ten, had breakfast, packed my stuff and headed home. Waited almost an hour for a bus that was supposed to go every 30 minutes but got home eventually. Caught up with LJ, talked to mum on phone and now it's just relaxing listening to the music I bought for the rest of the day.
