Octaine last night
11 Jun 2004 01:04 pmI still don't believe we actually managed to go for a year...
A round of thanks is in order:
- First of all, to
andrewdavies for suggesting it in the first place and convincing me that DJing is easy (which it is).
- to the Kambar for giving us the chance to do it
- to all of you who supported us either by turning up regularly or helping out with flyering and things (most notably
jasonooc and Paul D)
Here's to another year! :o)
Last night was OK. We just about broke even but we could have done with more people. Two main reasons, I guess: first and foremost the bloody truck that blocked the whole building so people were walking past on the other side of the road didn't even see anything went on inside.
Secondly, it's summer and I guess people rather sit outside than going to a stuffy club. We've done more advertising than ever before, heavy flyering at Strawberry Fair but nothing. That sucks a bit...
Musicwise, however, it was brilliant (strange, the events with the fewest people seem to be the best):
-
dj_slingshot played a weird mix of things, from easy listening to Apocalyptica and 80's cheese
- I played a groovy set of jazz/funk/blues/crossover, including the themes to Shaft and Starsky & Hutch.
-
eviltwinemma played a marvellous mix of goth, metal and electronica
-
andrewdavies played a bouncy dance set through various genres
- and finally, Ferret played a very cool mix of obscure metal/crossover/covers
Next month's guests:
- The DJ of Bath and Wells (
deliberateblank) in the first set
- DJ Hamst0r (
hamsterhotep) in the Dance set
- Myk in the Heavy Alternative set
