[Octaine] Retroactive Dedication
11 Jun 2004 03:02 amI hereby would like to retroactively dedicate my Groove set to the memory of Ray Charles who died today.
A man, a genius musician who has played over 10,000 concerts and recorded who knows how many albums and tracks. I still regret to have missed the tour a few years ago, he was definitely one of those people I'd have loved to see live.
One of the best things I've ever seen on TV was at some anniversary or other a while back when he sang "Summertime" with Ella Fitzgerald. They looked like an elderly couple sitting on the porch of their house, holding hands dreaming about the good times. If anyone asked me what Soul was, I would play them that song. It was haunting, fantastic, it grooved like a very very groovy thing. They put every fibre of their souls into their performance. Just to see it on TV was utterly amazing, being able to see that in reality would have been indescribable. They don't make musical artists like that anymore...
