Battlestar Galactica

devalmont,
robinbloke and me (well, those were the ones who showed up) around his place to watch the full run of the Battlestar Galactica mini-series.
Having browsed around the website a bit and seen the trailer I really didn't think it would be any good but I wanted to see with my own eyes.
As a recommendation, if you're a fan of the old series/films, try to ignore the fact that it's supposed to be BC and watch it as if you've never seen the original series. Also, it's not as I falsely assumed, a remake but a continuation (40 years later and the BC is about to be taken out of commission).
Then it's really rather entertaining. However, as almost always with mini-series, it could have been an hour shorter in total as there were some finger-drumming moments in there.
- the new Cylon soldiers and the moving red eye thing on the Cylon attack ships were really neat. All the effects/CGI was well done as well. Quite impressive for a TV production.
- good to see they left the basic designs of both the battlestar and the Vipers. Even the flight helmets had interior lights (but why? I would find it highly irritating to have bright lights around my peripheral vision)
- In the trailer/website, the Cylon chick wore a red leather catsuit, in the actual thing she was wearing a red dress. :o(
- it was really rather harsh, people/crew being abandoned/sent to their deaths for the good of the many, cruel Cylons (OK, that's a given) gave it a nice, dark feel
- Starbuck is not a woman! Apollo and Starbuck are supposed to be best mates, not lovers!
- In peace time, BC is actually the Love Boat...
- For an action oriented Sci-Fi series, there was a surprising amount of good characterisations in there.
