Happy New Year!
1 Jan 2004 11:14 pmRight, I'm back safe and sound, waiting for the pasta to finish cooking and catching up on LJ.
So a quick update for the last two days.
Finally I'm away from home, the last two days were a bit tedious with mum being her usual self...
On Tuesday, I got to Nuremberg with no problems, deposited my luggage and went into town.
The loot: New albums by L'Ame Immortelle, Tiamat, Laibach and Faun, the Hocio remix album, the current And One, live albums by Project Pitchfork, Rammstein and Corvus Corax, the first QNTAL album, one by Garmara, one random purchase (Noise Process), and an old Dan Baird album.
There wasn't that much choice this year and unfortunately I had forgotten my to-buy list so I forgot about buying some Eisheilig. :o(
Christiane picked me up from the station and then we had a light dinner and played some games. First a quick card game called Wizard and then a slightly complex board game called La Cittá which I hopelessly lost after some strategic miscalculations and some bad luck. By the time we had finished that it was past 2am and by the time I had settled down on the guest bed it was 3am.
On Wednesday, I got up at 9, had breakfast and headed into town to meet up with Elke, a good friend from my Uni days (and who had visited me in Cambridge a while ago). Had a nice coffee and a nice chat about our lives, jobs, films, books and other things. A very pleasant three hours (she had to get back and I wanted to help prepare dinner).
Got back by underground and bus, made pepper&feta salad, a smallish bowl of Dippadoom (only six people in total at the party later) and helped prepare the other stuff. I also sharpened Christiane's knives as well as I could but with some all hope was lost (poor quality knives, anyway).
The guests arrived and we could start dinner. As we had fondue (various meats cooked in broth rather than oil), this pretty much lasted all night, as you have to eat bit by little bit, anyway. A number of bottles of good red wine and a reasonable Speyside Single Malt at the end accompanied the lot. There were various salads, breads, dips and sauces, obviously.
At 12, we raised our glasses and then we went outside to burn some rockets, volcanoes and other loud and shiny things.
After about an hour, we went back inside, to fire up the fondue pot again for another round of eating as there was still much meat left. More interesting, silly and downright stupid conversations followed and finally Claus read parts of his LotR spoof (a bit like Bored of the Rings but concentrating on the bits that are only mentioned on the side or not at all in the books. The main characters are two demons who are sent out by Sauron to capture and torture Frodo and get the ring but they forget about that after a while...).
At 4am, I made my bed on the sofa this time as the guest bed was taken over by the other couple. Slept reasonably well but was woken regularly by the little one. Still, I had enough sleep to last the day and hadn't drunk too much the night before, either.
Today consisted of a long breakfast, cleaning up and a six player game of The Great Brain Robbery which was very good fun.
Packed my stuff and got a lift to the airport with plenty of time to spare. Flight was late by about 20 minutes but uneventful. In Stansted, I had to wait ages for my suitcase which meant I missed the bus I wanted to take and had to wait for almost an hour.
