Bizarrely, I just saw a real life Nobby (as in Discworld's Corporal Nobbs, as drawn by Paul Kidby) at Tesco's. In modern clothes, obviously. He was short, a bit chubby, unshaven, had a piece of a badly rolled cigarette in the corner of his mouth and another behind his ear and an old and faded baseball cap pushed back on his head.
Too bad I didn't have my camera with me, I would have asked him for a photo.

The body didn't quite match (he's thin in the Kidby version as well) but the face and the whole demeanor were spot on. ;o)
