Conjuration
3 Aug 2003 07:29 pmI had a really good time during the weekend at a fantastic con.
High quality of games and players and a wide variety of them.
I played card and board games (Munchkin Fu, Guillotine, a loong game of Robo Rally, Cave Troll and Kill Dr Lucky), tabletop (UA in 1930 Chicago. modern day CoC with giant cats) and a freeform (Last Flight of the Albatross). All were good but the freeform was the most enjoyable of them all which again showed that you can do and achieve a lot of things without having to have a rules mechanic.
Met old friends and acquaintances and met new ones and had a good time.
I think the main factor of the BRS cons is that, most likely due to the relatively high price and probably also because it's geared towards a certain group of games, you get very few youngsters. There are no silly tournaments and no CCG events which usually draws the kids. It's somewhere where I don't feel old, the average age is probably around 30 at least. It's a bit geeky but that doesn't hurt anyone. And I think only a BRS con can have a Real Ale bar ;o)
Bought Cave Troll, a fun little dungeon bashing board game. Will bring to pub on Tuesday.
Very very good weekend, much fun and good company.

Date: 3/8/03 03:30 pm (UTC)Though, for the record, I believe I was still the oldest person there. It meant I had to go first when we played Tikal.
Unfortunately the BRS con future does not look bright. I heard no one put in a tender to run the next one.

Date: 3/8/03 03:37 pm (UTC)Knowing Phil and Sheila, I think they'd rather do it again themselves (and coerce the usual suspects to help) than let the con die.
I guess, just like with anything else, it will depend on what their finances look like.
Silly side comment
Contraception, I think. ;o)
