Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel for one night that's easy to get to from the airport? I really only need somewhere to sleep at night.
I'll be arriving on the Tuesday before ICC but the discounted rate at the con hotel only starts at Wednesday.
My plans are then to do some sightseeing on the Wednesday, move into the con hotel, do more sightseeing on the Thursday and then ICC til the cows go home.

Also, any recommendations as to what to see in St. Louis apart from the usual tourist spots? [livejournal.com profile] greebotrill already recommended the City Museum (I'm keeping that in mind should the weather be bad).

Thank you!

Talk to [livejournal.com profile] bishoporelton - he should be able to help you out. :-)

He'll know more than I do, certainly. :) Probably. Maybe. Well, I think he might.

On the other hand, we can probably check the phone book for you. :)

What? What is this "phone book" of which you speak?

Hell, I remember being in the ICC hotel once. Couldn't find it again if you paid me.

*grins* I've never been there. But at least *I* know where the airport is!

And the phone book is usually someplace around www.yahoo.com's yellow pages? :)

I can do some checking, however I'm still debating as to whether I should stay with my sister's mother-in-law who lives in town or just spring for a hotel room. I'm still checking around to see if I can find a place in St. Louis to put Robbo (and possibly Ginnie?) for the course of ICC. I can definiatly house people in Chicago...so if anyone wants to come visit before or after, I'll have space.

Thanks, I think I can search from here just as well. Just thought that a local might have a recommendation (brochures often lie).

Ideally, I'll win the lottery by the end of August, fly to New York, DC and Chicago, from there hire a red '69 Mustang convertible and drive along the Route 66, making sure I'm in St. Louis for ICC and carry on til the end.
This is one of my lifelong dream holidays.

Can't help you with St. Louis but just in case you do with the lottery... Heres something to help you *find* route 66 since its not on most maps anymore.

Go to the Missouri Botanical Gardens. coolest thing I saw when I was there a couple years ago. Even in March the outdoor gardens were lovely.

Also, be warned that public transit is essentially nonexistent.

I'll see you there, but I'll be getting in on Wednesday so you won't have to put up with me telling you all about my character all the way over :)

Done!
Which flight are you on? I'm with AA, arriving at 16:50 on the Tuesday.
If it's the same, we could meet up at Gatwick, as long as you don't tell me about your character. ;oP

I don't have the number here but there's only one a day so this should be it. Excellent.

I'm flying back Monday afternoon, which brings me to Gatwick at 6 in the morning on Tuesday. :o/

I need my own room from Wednesday, though as I'm sharing with someone but moving within the same hotel is slightly cheaper.

Don't forget to get half the cost off me.

Right, now to make sightseeing plans.

I ordered some brochures from here (http://www.explorestlouis.com/) a while ago, just need to find and then read them. :o)

Musts: Gateway Arch and a journey on a Riverboat, it might be cheesy but I doubt I'll have the chance to do that any time soon.

There's loads of stuff you can find on the net. We have two months, I'm sure we can find something to do. :o)
