[Cam] Another thought
28 Jul 2003 01:18 pmJust had a thought that there will certainly be people being pissed off with the End Times/reset:
People with long standing characters with loads of XP are one thing (they might get some sort of compensation, anyway) but I can imagine new games who have just joined or are currently thinking about joining having far more to lose because a game background is far more complex and work intensive than a single character's. The whole story, NPCs and things that might have needed approval, the work of several months at least.
Games who might have considered joining won't do so now.

Date: 28/7/03 05:49 am (UTC)"We're not sure, but we think the whole society might fold in a year or so. Please don't leave everything to the guys who've been playing this for four years or more, even if they do have characters you'll never be able to hold a candle to.".
It's a shame, 'cause meeting new people is a Good Thing.
The other thought is that something had better surface to replace the Camarilla (assuming the recent announcement is the first death-knell), 'cause it's the main reason a lot of nice people have got to know each other. It'd be a shame to end that.

Date: 28/7/03 06:19 am (UTC)Garou differs from 'Ling in terms of "overall plot & feel" because of its defining focus: The world is about to end, probably within a generation. The Garou Nation knows this, and is (infighting aside) trying to avert the Apocalypse or (if they ever figure out how) "win" it. If "their world" wasn't actually doomed, there'd be something wrong. Might as well bring on the doom at some point.
Changeling is slightly different. Although the Fae do have a "world" that's grinding towards a flat, grey demise, it's not obsessed with that end. The characters and the peculiarities of their society are usually the focus of attention. Because of their banality-limited life, 'Ling characters are 'fragile' enough for STs to prevent a buildup of übercharacters, and the whole setting could keep going as long as people enjoy it. Also, like Vampire, it can "exist in a vacuum". If you took the Changeling setting and put it in a world with no supernatural beings beside Dreaming/Autumn ones, it'd still work just fine.

Date: 28/7/03 06:15 am (UTC)As for new players - ok they won't be around for long but they will sure be in at the grand finale!
In C/A I am still playing my first character, Maggie, and I shall be interested in seeing how she copes with the actual end times - but being a good cammie despite being Gangrel I suspect she doesn't quite believe in it.
As for Garou, which has just beocme open in Runnymede - as I said, we will be there at the actual last battle! how cool is that?
And I am sure the inventive (marketing) geniuses at WW will come up with something - whether the rest of us wil think it is worth sh!t is a different thing. Ho hum,let us see what happens when it comes.

Date: 29/7/03 04:31 am (UTC)Of course now I think of it, you can't be killed in downtime as I recall, so by not showing up at games, your character survives the end ;) I suspect that might be waived in this case somehow.
