Friday
Up to not much except packing for the weekend, then Wiesenfest (imagine a tiny Oktoberfest), meeting a couple of friends, strolling about the fairground and drinking beer on the benches under the trees.
Had an early night with some very odd dreams I can't remember but I remember that there was someone with a TV remote control who switched from one dream sequence to the next. Very bizarre.

Saturday
Early morning (7am), left for Nuremberg at 8, arrived at NURD a small con concentrating on unusual or silly games (at least that's the theory, most people end up playing WW, D&D or Shadowrun in the end, which is a bit of a shame), 15 minutes early. Said hi to old friends and signed in, meeting more friends and killing time playing FLUXX til Norbert arrived to run Cartoon Action Hour. We played a Warriors of the Cosmos story in which I was Lorxan the Gargoyle. We actually managed to defeat the plot and the villain (beware of handbag wielding heroines).
After that I played RISUS, the anything roleplaying game, which was a lot of fun, and covered the silly side of roleplaying (which is one of the themes of the con).
As we weren't tired yet after that we played a couple of hands of FLUXX and one round of Kill Dr Lucky which took ages as murder opportunities were really rare. Still loads of fun.
Rolled up in my sleeping bag and drifted in and out of consciousness at 3am, with the background chatter of the diehards who continued through the night. While I was still living in Nuremberg, I always played through the night but I still had to drive home on Sunday so I rather had a couple of quiet hours.

Sunday
Crawled out at 7, had breakfast and early chats and waited for players to turn up for my Tales from the Floating Vagabond game. Managed to get a full group, played a couple of pre- and interludes and finally started the adventure. The Barkeep send the patrons on a quest to find him the ingredients for the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster (of HHGttG fame) which made for a fun game with hilarious consequences and took us almost 6 hours. We could have played longer but I had to leave at 5. At least the PCs are now wanted on at least three systems across the multiverse ;o).

Packed up, said and hugged goodbye to loads of friends old and new and headed off for Herzogenaurach to meet Elke, an old friend from translators' school. We chattted, had a lovely dinner at a Greek place down the road while sitting outside, talked about the old times when we were young and AOR was all the rage and agreed to meet up soon, providing that Elke gets the time off and a cheap flight to London Stansted sometime in early September. Would be cool to see her again, just emailing and phoning simply isn't enough. BTW, we're nothing but very good friends as neither is the other's type, we just click on many levels. She's someone you can steal horses with, to use a German idiom, and who could very easily drink me under the table :o).

Monday
Had a good 10 hours of uninterrupted sleep which recharged my batteries nicely. Quick lunch and then off into town to watch the schoolchilldren parade through town. Watched some of the games, walked about the fairground, listened to the US Big Band, met my dad outside near the bandstand, had a quick drink and walked home again to get some more sleep.
Watched the last parade into centre of town and then the official end of the event with mayor's speech and the traditional singing and letting loose of balloons, walked back to the fairground, watched the musicians on the kids' merry-go-round and met up with some friends to drink beer under the trees and chat. A lovely evening, great weather, beer and food.

Tuesday
Got up at a reasonable time of 9am, had breakfast, got ready and got a lift from dad to the nearest station that services Nuremberg.
Managed to get an earlier train than intended and settled down. Opened the window to let in some air only to be spat at by some cow that she was sitting in a draft. Actually, the people wanting air outweighed those who didn't (the cow) but nobody was in the mood to argue.
Got there, put the suitcase in a locker and strolled into Nuremberg. A most glorious, if hot, day. All the cool sights shone in the bright sunlight and I immediately felt like coming home, much more so than in my actual hometown, strangely enough.
Loads of gorgeous women wearing very little lifted my mood, though ;o) .
Needed a chill so went shopping earlier. I stopped at 12 CDs as I thought spending more than 200 Euros would be silly (making it less than a tenner per CD, full list to follow). Imagine the racks they have at Resurrection Records, but not in some dingy underground shop but as part of the Indie section in a supermarket type store (Müller is a bit like Boots, it has drugs, perfume/beauty products plus toys, games (both real and video) and CDs/DVDs at really good prices.
Had some lovely lunch (king prawns sauteed in garlic butter on a huge and wonderfully dressed leaf salad for 9.50 Euros, about £6.60, and that's in the city centre, at a cool restaurant).
Wandered around a bit more on the way back to the station. Went to an internet cafe which wouldn't let me connect to LJ (due to adult content), took the underground to the airport, checked in and waited for my plane reading.
Uneventful flight with a good view. Only had to wait 45 minutes for the next bus to Cambridge and managed to catch a taxi straight away.
Got home and collapsed.

The End.
