We have some profit (I believe) we can turn into advertising for the next one. As soon as we have the date, any help would be appreciated.
We had 30 people through the door, which we had hoped for. There were even people we didn't know.
Sadly, very few people danced, only during the last Industrial track and my Metal/Rock set were a good number of people.
Again proof that people will only dance to songs they know... :o/
I was amazed at how well I did technically (it was my first time), I didn't screw up once and only accidentally played one song twice (but two very different versions by different artists). I enjoyed myself but would have even more if people had danced. Then again, people did tell me that they liked the music, so I'm happy.

Yay for it working out alright!

Might I recommend a mix of two popular tracks to one obscure track of a similar tempo/style? That way, you get them dancing and all worked up and then they might carry on to the "new" song.

Cheers for the suggestion, will take that on board. However, with Funk and Folk/Medieval, there isn't much people know...

Next date isn't set in stone yet, probably the 31st of July.
I'll announce it as soon as we have it.

Congrats on turning a profit!

I'd echo the other comments about playing a well known song or two followed by something new and then flipping back and forth. Works wonders! Somehow filling the dancefloor at blacklight with the new (week old at the time) Lights of Euphoria single by playing it after something popular.

I wish we had a venue that cheap for Blacklight btw ;)

Cheers!
Suggestions always welcome and as [livejournal.com profile] andrewdavies said, we know where we can improve and things.

I think it's more expensive on weekends but obviously it has the advantage of having the equipment already installed so we don't need to go to third parties for that (and I guess PA system and lights are Blacklight's major cost factor).

Nice, eclectic sets there :)

I usually get horrible looks when I put anything even vaguely folk related on...

BTW you an Oyster Band fan at all? They are touring again (as ever!) this year if so..

Eclectic was the point of the night ;o)

I do like Oyster Band but don't have anything by them, sadly. Cheers for the hint.

I'd say it succeded then!

Hmm, when am I next likely to run into you? I can burn you a copy of Trawler (their taster/best of album from a few years back), and see if you like it?

No idea.
I *might* go to the Central Regional but that's probably not likely.

I'm most likely at the August London 'ling/Greenwich games. If there are Brum people going you could give it to one of them?

Thanks for the offer, anything you'd like in return?
