When George suddenly hears sounds and voices but can't speak himself I thought the film suddenly turned into a classic episode of the Twilight Zone (it would have been a perfect theme and if there wasn't such a story, there really should have been) and was really disappointed when it turned out to be a dream. That would have taken the film somewhere completely different.
