karohemd: Gentoo penguins in Antarctica, by me (Hungry)

I just had my first persimmon fruit, really nice. Sweet, juicy, firm flesh (similar to mango but not stringy), taste somewhere between mango and peach. No seeds or stone but I don't think you can eat the skin.

A friend of mine's father has a tree of these (in central Suffolk) and managed to get loads of them ripe this year: we had one about a week off the tree, and it was extremely nice. (That article suggests a bewildering variety of different types, but I think his one's from Italy.) I hadn't heard of them ripening in this country before...

It doesn't really sound like something that would thrive in Suffolk, no.

Right, the internet agrees, it's with skin next time.
They were in my organic box this week which is always good for educating me what's out there.
