[livejournal.com profile] robinbloke had given me some Grasmere gingerbread that needed eating and I had blueberries in my organic box this week so I thought "cheesecake". My first cake ever! For that I'm really happy how it came out. The topping (Quark and whipped double cream) was a bit soft but maybe it needed to set for longer. I'll see what it looks like tomorrow. :)
Then I thought presenting it on a black plate with a little dusting of icing sugar would look nice, only for the container to slip and dump a whole lot of sugar on the plate. Not quite my day, I think.
Still, I'm happy how it tasted so that's encouraging.

An attempt at Blueberry Cheesecake

Second best gingerbread known to man. Elliphants gingerbread is just slightly better...

The Food Programme on Radio 4 yesterday had a programme dedicated to amateur food photographers, and the phenomenon of people blogging and photographing their meals.

"Heard it and thought of You" (as it were).

Will no doubt be on iPlayer for a few days if you are interested (and if you didn't catch it the first time).

Heh, thanks! I'll give that a listen.

Hm, a radio programme in which people talk about photography is a bit lacking.

You don't subscribe to the theory that the pictures are always better on the radio then? ;-)

I was almost a bit shocked about the professional photographer ranting about how digital cameras have destroyed the business. Yes, everyone can produce digital photographs cheaply these days but you still need to know what you're doing. TBH, I don't have that much of an insight into the industry to judge but I think he was exaggerating there. I can see what he means with digital images swamping the market but it simply means there's a lot more chaff to go through.

He's dead right about "the eye", though. When you know what you're doing, all you need is a box with a hole and a means of capturing the picture in it. The better the camera is, the more control you have over exposure, DOF, colour representation, contrast and all that but you still need to frame the shot.
