And Bolt bolted to Gold
16 Aug 2008 03:47 pmNew world record and he still eased off before the finish, leaving the rest of the field (the world's best, no less) at least three strides behind. If he had gone at full pelt, that might have been a ludicrous time... He was already celebrating when he still had 10m to go because nobody could touch him. If he doesn't get injured or turn out to be another Ben Johnson, he'll most like stay there for years to come because he's just at the beginning of his career.
In the women's competition, the 100m WR is still held by Florence Griffith-Joyner from 1988, that's 20 years! I wonder if something's going to happen there this year. Then again, they tend to go for world records when there's money at stake...

Classic Who

Two background questions:
- Has it ever been established what timeframe the Doctor's "presence" and his age is? He turns up in various years on Earth but surely must have been born at one point.
- Recently, he's always been credited as "The Doctor" and that's what he introduces himself as in past series, too but in older episodes, he's credited as "Doctor Who" and Pertwee even has the number plate "WHO" yet I haven't heard anyone refer to that name during the stories. I'd always assumed it was a case of "Who are you?" - "I'm the Doctor." - "Doctor Who?" but I haven't heard such an exchange, either.
ION, I've had lovely dinner with some fine wine and am now enjoying a wee dram of Bowmore Enigma. Early night probably, too. Load of stuff to do tomorrow.
Bond on ITV
16 Aug 2008 10:11 pmThe speed boat chase is definitely one of the best opening sequences and the opening credits are a perfect mix of modern and classic. Other than that, mmmm, Sophie Marceau. Definitely one of those women who get even more attractive with age. In La Boom she was cute, now she's still one hell of a woman.
Mentioning Bond, last week I saw the trailer to Quantum of Solace (which is the title of a Fleming short story that doesn't even have Bond in it ETA: at least that's not about him) and it looked like he's going rogue in that one. We'll see.
