Boy, I now remember why I liked this so much.

It's not only the superb storytelling and fine acting (for a TV show), it's the fantastic production values, especially the photography. Almost every shot is perfectly lit and framed with fantastic use of perspective and depth of field.
Add to this superb settings and costumes and you have a winner.

Why why why did they have to cancel this after the second season? Why?

Dan Clark from Stromkern posted a link to my photo of him at Infest and calls it "the best live photo of me I've ever seen".
Hm, it's definitely not the best live photo I've ever taken (it was from the audience with my compact rather than a real camera) but if he thinks so... ;o)

Thick Chard and Leek Soup

Bigger )
Based on an idea by *gasp* Antony Worrall Thompson but with my own twist.
Cut the stalks from the chard leaves and chop them finely.
Slice the leeks finely.
Chop some garlic.
Heat a generous glug of olive oil and a big knob of butter in a large saucepan on medium heat, add the above, stir for a while then cover, reduce the heat a bit and stirring occasionally, cook until tender.
Dust with flour and stir until a light roux forms in the fat.
Fill up with milk and bring to the boil, add half a vegetable stock cube, season to taste with salt, pepper and nutmeg and simmer until thickening slightly.
Stir in a handful of grated mature cheddar until melted.
Finally, put in the chopped chard leaves, cover, turn off the heat and let steam for a few minutes until the chard has wilted.
Combine and serve with boiled new potatoes ([livejournal.com profile] nannyos this week).

There's enough left for lunch and dinner tomorrow but I had to use up the chard in one go. It shrinks like spinach, though.
That adds green veg to my daily consumption and almost accomplishes proper five a day (no purple but that's difficult).

It's amazing how well he can play the piano with those short stubby fingers. ;o)

Guitar bloke has a cool piece of kit, too. He's got a double neck SG but instead of the usual configuration (12 strings top, six strongs bottom), he's got two six string necks with the top one tuned open so he can play slide on it. Oddly, the head is still the bigger one of a twelve string...
