Nothing else on the news channels. Just let the old man die in peace. At 84 and after 10 years of Parkinson's, he's suffered enough...

What I found interesting is that the majority of the candidates for his succession are from poorer countries in Africa and South America which might lead to a new direction of the Catholic church. Hopefully.

While the first episode of Dr Who was good in a Dr Who kind of way, this one was good in every aspect.  The makeup/prosthetics and most of the other SFX wouldn't have looked out of place in higher profile series like Farscape or Star Trek, the characters were just fantastic and the plot was good as well. All in a cheesy way, of course but yay!
Such a shame they couldn't get Ann Robinson to do the voice of Cassandra, that would have been so appropriate. (Eccleston said on Jonathan Ross last week that they tried) ;o)

Oh yeah, and I want an iWurlitzer. ;o)

Duck

Very proud of myself as the pan-fried duck breast turned out exactly as I wanted: nice and crispy skin with most of the fat rendered (mmm, roast potatoes soon, I think) and the meat uniformly pink throughout.
Some steamed green asparagus and an oven roasted rösti completed a very tasty dinner. Sadly, no wine as I'm driving later.

The ritual procedures (removing of his affects from the apartments, breaking of the ring etc.) are quite interesting. One of the reports on BBC News 24 just mentioned that one method of finding out if the Pope was dead used to be to knock on his forehead with a silver hammer three times. If there was no reaction, the Pople would be pronounced dead. I hope they have a medical professional doing that now...

At least that was reasonably quick.
Now the mourning and the politics start. Let's see what happens.
