Have a look at this page (local newspaper).
OK, it's most likely a colour space issue but still.

The shades range from 'Liver failure' to 'abject embarrassment/tomato'. I think someone needs to fire their photo editor and hire someone who isn't like 'OMG PHOTOSHOP MAEK THINGS GO DIFFERENT COLOURSSS'

Hee hee. :)

There's a fab advert doing the rounds on FB/the Internet in general, to do with teeth whitening - the before picture is rather normal, the after is black lips, gums and luminous teeth!

given they're all too red, I'm betting they still have a nice, big CRT monitor for the designer/photo guy, which happens to have the green going on it, and they're adjusting thier photos to "look right" without realising its their monitor going off

Ah, that's another possibility.
I thought that that they possibly used the same photos that are calibrated correctly for newsprint but will look awful on screen?

Neither of these explanations is quite sufficient to explain what I'm seeing. If the monitor had a faulty green channel then their whites would be off, which they aren't.

Holger Grießhammer is the worst. Pulling the Saturation slider down to -40 makes him look nearly human, but still quite pink. Pulling the green slider up to +40 as well is sufficient to approximately correct the photo.

The saturation I can just about explain as compensating for a very desaturating print process (cheap, nasty newspaper). The colour space distortion is just weird, though. Possibly they have a piece of hardware somewhere with its colour profile set to farcical values by mistake.

Oh dear.
I'm actually tempted to write to them.

Grießhammer (towards the bottom of middle column) is a great name! That sounds like quite a specialized item of culinary / milling equipment.

*laughs* It's a very typical last name for the region.
I went to [pre-college school that doesn't really have an equivalent over here] with two poor guys, one called Kalbskopf (calf's head) and the other one Schniedel (which - and "Schniedelwutz" - is also a colloquial term for penis, so his nickname was "Wutz").
There are many profession based names, incl. negative ones like Pascher (old term for smuggler which makes perfect sense for our region).

heh! -- that Schniedel guy really should change it.

They look like they've just run all the way down the street and arrived just in time for the photo.
