Biggest Anglo-Saxon hoard since Sutton Hoo?

This stuff is in incredibly good nick. OK, most of it is gold so it shouldn't deterioate much but bits like that belt buckle look like they're still fully functional.

it may be fair to say every reenactor I know is emailing each other with phrases like "squee" and "I want one of those, and that one, and that one, and cone someone make me...."

you may also like the links I'll be posting for Ozzy in a seperate comment for it... :)

Helmet finds like that are really rare, even only fragmentary ones. Off the top of my head, the only other ones I can think of are Sutton Hoo, Coopergate in York, and Benty Grange.

Nice stuff.

Mind you, Sutton Hoo wasn't a hoard, which that article kind of implies.

I thought of you when I saw all this on the news earlier. Is it your historical period, or slightly later?
Anyway it's gorgeous and I hope the British Museum has it on loan at some point. Probably will keep it - they have all the good stuff.

Slightly earlier -- I mean, I know a good deal about this stuff, but my *real* specialist period is more from the 9th c. onward.

Serious wow factor.

We are going up to Birmingham in a little over a week, I guess much will still be on display in Birmingham, so after we've finished at the NEC a trip to a museum seems a good plan.
